Feeling as though adequate terrain has been traversed (and malt beverages consumed) to give a formal update. *Disclaimer: The truck is stock 1500 5.7 CC 6'4" bed 3.92 tow pkg save the Airlift 1k's @ 15-20 psi*
First impression, holy sh*t. This thing has more ass than a weightwatcher's meeting. I'm dragging 7800# worth of trailer damn near everyday and this beast doesn't miss a trick. Just finished a run from L'ville, KY to Waynesboro, VA and it still managed 9.9 mpg. Through the mountains. Not just I-64 cruise control mountains, Hwy 60 Midland Trail mountains. 15 mph switchbacks and 1000 ft ascend/descend with 8%+ grades. God how I love this machine.
Second impression, don't expect your 1500 to magically act like a 3/4 ton just because the power gives you a chubby. You pulls a big trailer you feels the effect of the physics. For those out there dealing with sway first understand that weight distribution hitches may not offer sway control. They are separate entities unless clearly stated as a combo platter. Some guys drop a couple of chain links to get the nose down to counter the wag. Just for science I dropped the ball a notch and drew the chains as tight as they'd go. Decreased tail wag significantly without running loose on the drive axle. And as far as getting sucked in by the big rigs just give 'em a couple extra feet when they come around. Hug that white line and decrease the Bernoulli effect.
Third impression, I can't wait to start modding this truck to further beef what is already a formidable heifer. Thanks to all of those on here that have aided me in developing yet another addiction I probably can't afford but will willingly fork over coin for nonetheless. Ya'll keep 'em straight out there.
