I'm planning on leveling my truck and putting a 35x12.5 tire (or close to it) with 17" wheels and I was wondering if anyone on here has this setup with 3.55 gears. If so, how does it pull compared to the stock setup? Also, I'm getting around 17mpg average per tank right now and I was wanting to know if my mileage would drop down below 15mpg. Any body know these things from experience? I have to drive quite a bit and if it would drop below 15mpg it would be a deal breaker and I'd have to drop my tire size. Thanks for any help!

I am running this setup now with my truck, well 20x10 with 35x12.5. Truck still has a lot of power, loses a little get up and go, but it's a truck I don't have it lifted with offroad tires to go racing. But I can still merge onto an interstate at speed, and top end is still amazing for passing if needed, just only really noticeable down low to me say till 35-45mph area. Straight highway driving, and with my mods I can still average 18-19 highway and if it's in flat lands like central PA and stuff i can see high 19's hand calculated. City driving stop go is what will kill you my normal commute is 70/30 city/highway and i stay in 14.5-15.5 area depending on traffic times and so on. This is just my truck with my mods, every truck is different along with driving habits. I would say do gears, but it's expensive or maybe a lighter AT tire would help compared to heavy MT's like I have each Rim/Tire for me 125 pounds a side so an AT would definitely help. Hope this helps ya a little bit, don't want to turn you off but maybe think of different ways, a lot of people are happy with a good AT and still look good and like a MT tire.

You're gonna be lucky to be around 13-15 with 35x12.50 mud tire. Definitely look into an AT terra grappler and so forth if mileage is a concern.

I recently purchased the falken rocky mountain ATS. And their incredibly smooth. I have a 35 12.5 on my truck and they come with a 50.000mi warranty. They range about 180 something a tire and I recommend them........just my 2 cents

Gears would be best, 1st and 2nd gear on the 65rfe are not a good ratio compared to the 8 speed or the Ford and GM 6 speed. That's why down low will suffer.

Oh and I v got the 4.56 gears as well.....I blew the rear axle a while back and used a 3.55 gear axle till I repaired my 4.56 axle and it was horrible. Couldn't use the 4x4 and the truck kicked in and out of overdrive and at low speeds catching speed sucked. I just recommend using a 4.10 or 4.56 if u drive it on interstates a bit but if your only in town I'd go 4.88 all the way lol....

3.55 here, right around 8.3 mpg, but m also way more modded than what you want to do.

I ran 35s on 20x10's for about a month while i waited for my lift, I averaged 15mpg with a tune.

Thanks for the replies, guys. I can't decide between the terra grappler and the cooper stt. I had the STT on an F-150 I had and I ran them with a leveling kit and I only got about 12mpg with that setup. It only had a 4.6 engine with an auto 4 spd tranny. That truck was as underpowered as as could be. It wouldn't go over 40mph up a hill with a trailer and 3 racing fourwheelers on it, so I have a lot of power to spare from what I'm used to haha. I'm thinking since I got more power now that I won't have to be on the throttle as much to keep up my speed and that will result in better mpg. That make any sense?
