I’m looking for anyone with any experience doing a cam and lifter replacement on a lifted 1500. My 2015 4x4 is lifted 4” with a kit from rough country and it’s going to need a cam and lifters at some point soon. I’m most likely going to swap to a high volume oil pump with non mds lifters and camshaft in the process. I know you would normally need to drop the front diff or lift the engine to be able to drop the oil pan and have enough clearance, but with the 4” lift it appears that I wouldn’t need to. To me it looks like there’s enough room between the cross member and the pan but I want to know for sure before I commit to starting this project myself. Any input or direction is appreciated and thanks in advance!

I known for a fact there's enough room on superlifts 4" and BDS 4"

If you're dead set on swapping pumps use the hellcat with 50 psi spring. But if you're getting a custom tune your factory pump with idle set at 750 RPM also gives you 50 psi of oil pressure at idle.

Not sure how much oil pumps wear over time, but If your '15 has high miles, IMO replacing the pump is a good thing because you're already in there, even if you get a custom tune.

You probably already know this, but you'll need an unlocked PCM to tune for a Non-MDS cam on your 15

To me it seems like getting that clearance is the most challenging part of the job, so if I already have that the rest seems a job I’m more than capable of with the tools I have. As far as the oil pump I know the stock pump is 14mm and a hellcat or high volume would be 16mm so that was my plan to get a larger volume of oil moving at idle. I have heard and read about swapping the spring but that was something I was planning on nailing down whenever I get around to ordering parts.

I put a standard spring in my Hellcat pump but I added one washer under the spring for "just a bit more"
The other thing is ..... the bolt that retains the pick up tube is accessible / removable without pulling the pan. (if you have delicate fingers but my old arthritic fingers can't be trusted)
You can pull that bolt and probably flex the pickup tube downward enough to remove the pump. The pickup tube is only secured by one bolt towards the rear of the engine.
