I have a 2022 Ram 2500 with the 6.4L Hemi that I recently purchased. The previous owner replaced the OEM muffler with what looks to be a performance muffler and had the resonator removed. The truck sounds good and runs good but at speeds below like 45 mph it can have a pretty loud and annoying drone. I am thinking of purchasing a vibrant resonator (part #17970) which is a 18" long bottle style design and placing it near the tail pipe similar to how the OEM was. Has anyone tried this, if so does it help? Does anyone have any other suggestions? i also considered buying the Borla S type exhaust system and replacing the whole setup if I have to but I would rather just repair what I have if possible. Thanks for the help.

I'd go Borla if I were you - absolutely no regrets!
However, if you're trying to save money, I still have the original resonator off my truck you could have.
We're both in Ohio. I'm sure we could make it happen.

But, again, I'd go Borla . . . :happy107:

We dont have any customers running that have tried to add a resonator to help with drone. Is there any branding on the muffler you have now?

We can help with a full catback or a different muffler kit. Post some pics of your setup and I'll do my best to help you find a solution.

If you are going to do any extra exhaust work, I would remove it all and get a Borla S Type system. Sounds great and NO, and I mean NO drone on highway. Even when towing my camper.

I appreciate the offer on the resonator, there was a point that I was thinking of looking for an OEM one and would have taken you up on that offer. However after hearing a few comments I am leaning towards going with the Borla system and being done with it. Thanks!

I once had a Flowmaster on a previous car. Hated it. Used it as an excuse to trade it in on a new car. I'll never do an aftermarket exhaust again.

Harlez4life,

How do you like those Firestone Destination XTs that you have on your truck in that picture?

That muffler looks like a Flowmaster type muffler and a fairly small one too.
I have only owned the truck for a month but so far I like them, they are not loud at all on the road and have done well off road so far.

Well theres the answer, that looks like a flowmaster or flowmaster knock off chambered muffler, better known as dronemaster. While a resonator may help I dont think it will solve it. I would swap that out with a different muffler. that would be my 1st move. Unfortunately they did not use a bolt in muffler kit, because you would then be able to unbolt that and bolt in a new muffler kit. You can still get a muffler kit but it will take a little fab work now to install it.

Our customers really like this option. With its straight through design it has a deep tone and can get aggressive when you want it to but is not obnoxious. It deals with drone very well, much better than a chambered muffler would.

Thanks for the suggestion but I am going to buy the borla kit. Hoping maybe I can find a memorial day sale on it.

I was also considering the Borla S type for my powerwagon then decided to try the solo performance muffler delete with the OEM resonator, couldn't be happier. sounds very similar to the S Type with a fraction of the price. No drone at all

I’ve got a 22 5.7 an I have to imagine this applies for both engines. Put your stock (or aftermarket)resonators on, which kills cab drone, and put a borla on. I first got the ProXs muffler and it sounded great. It was a bit quiet so I switched to the borla attack and it’s awesome. Louder with decent cab noise, but zero drone. None. Best sounding exhaust for Hemi’s IMO.
