Hey guys, so I’m learning SO SO much since being on these forums, thanks to every one of you!

So for a while now my truck has been having random electrical issues: after driving a while, the ABS light comes on; maybe like once a month whenever I’d turn the key, the truck would completely die — I’d have to disconnect the battery and re-connect immediately and then it would start perfectly fine; maybe like once a year the whole dash would randomly flash off for a few seconds and then then back on — absolutely terrifying when driving down the highway!! I just figured it was — as my Dad used to call it: Gremlins!!

But recently when doing some other repairs, I noticed (thanks to someone on this forum!!) that my “engine-to-body” ground strap was broken.

So this original strap looks like it was bolted onto the back of the engine with an Eyelet Connector. There was also another strap going to the other side of the engine, also bolted on with Eyelet Connectors (this cable was fine).

I managed to find where the other end of this strap was supposed to connect — to the Passnger side heat shield, near the front of the vehicle with a clip type connector:

So I bought some new grounding straps, and re-attached the one end to the back of the engine, with an eyelet type connector to the bolt where the first pic connected to (same connection), but the other end of this strap also has an eyelet connector.

So my question is, should I modify this end to have a Clip connector and connect it to the Heat shield in the same spot, in the same way? Orrrrr can I use them existing Eyelet Connector and connect it to a near by bolt (or just screw a bolt somewhere myself)?

Also…..second question:
Can anyone help me figure out where the other Grounding Sttaps are located so I can check those too? Might as well end these “Gremlins” once and for all!!!!

Thanks!!!!

It shouldn't matter much as long as you have a good electrical bond from engine to frame to body to battery. I have personally seen some real interesting problems crop up because of missing ground (bonding) straps. One time, one vehicle was losing wheel bearings and it turned out to be the short little bonding strap across the engine mount.

Do the big 3 upgrade. Here's the easiest video to follow. Don't overthink it.

About 10 feet of wire, 0, 1 or 2 gauge.

You can buy it precut and already with the copper terminal attached.

No need to remove existing wires.
