Whats up everybody. Havent posted in quite sometime. Just needed some feedback. I have an 04 3.7 Ram 1500 5speed manual single cab with just a little over 350,000. With no major engine issues, its just starting to smoke due to a head gasket leak. Just wanted to hear some average miles you have getting out of your engines before any major work was done. I am planning to get a new engine. Thinking about going to the 4.7 and still use the same tranny and rear end but also thinking about just keeping it as a 3.7. Havent had any real major issues. Its been a solid motor.

Just been scrolling the 3rd gen forums even though i have a 4th with a 4.7 and i must say the 3.7 is very reliable when it’s taken care of right, just slow. I’ve seen some clock 500K to 600K with good maintenance.

I have had 2 unrelated, reliable sources tell me that my 3.7 should give me no trouble well over 200k miles, so long as I change the oil every 3-4k miles (not 7500 or whatever Ram recommends).

On a related topic, my 2012 transmission, the 42RLE, failed at 44k. I replaced it with a MOPAR rebuilt trans that lasted to 110k. I am now 8k miles into my third transmission, rebuilt from MOPAR.

I don't tow or haul anything noteable or often. Camping gear, etc., from time to time.
