My 1500 sounds like a diesel at cold start up and after about an hour sitting. Truck will shake and damn near die if it doesn't get 2 mins of warm up time. Put in some 20w40 to isolate the sound as I thought it was a lifter problem at the time and it's coming from right behind the fan so I guess it's the timing chain. So I'm going to tackle that aoon as I've already picked up a complete kit.
Brother in law who's going to help with this wants to beef up this engine and do the cams and lifters while we're in there. I called a few dodge part houses and only one guy, can't find him again to order, knew about the H/O cams and intake upgrade dodge apparently once sold for my 05 4.7. I can't seem to find where to buy them, I hear that they can be taken off of 2001-2 High output Cherokee or from newer 3rd gens. Need some help here
I'm going to be doing some heavy towing from time to time and want the most out of this truck, later on it'll be a fifth wheel a few times a year, I'm open to upgrade suggestions. It's supposed to have the 3.93 differential but I'm not so sure that hasn't been changed. Previous owner towed it pretty hard, springs are ruined, the truck sat level before I pulled some 275/65/20's from an F250 for the rear. New springs are in order.
I'm guessing the timing chain is stretching because over the last 9,000 miles since I bought the truck the fuel economy has been steadily going down (was 16 in town and 20 @60mph 15@70mph, now 13 in town and 16.5 @60mph), power is down, diesel sound at startup is louder and lasts longer and it doesn't idle smoothly with the A/C on even after its warmed up. Has lots of power when it's in the 70's outside and fuel consumption goes down. Can't figure that one out.
Transmission shifts great though.
