4 inch lift personal opinions?

I just read in the bds ball joint thread. Trying to decide what kind of lift to put on this truck. Stock SRA’s are to wear bar and need new sticker come august. I thought about running a winter set of tires and summer but atm I have my brother who has a a set of 285 60 20 duratracs. I know a 35 would probably fill out better but that 285 would be better winter time. Thinking it wouldn’t look like crap but kind of want to hear personal takes on this I was going to do a four inch RC but have heard some negative on here. Also if I do a four should I be replacing the upper control arms? Any help would be great as black Betty needs some new shoes.

Start off with figuring out a budget you want to stay within. I would recommend the Zone 6” lift as our trucks handle the lift better. You have an option to leave out the preload spacer so you will net a 5” lift in the front. Reach out to @Nick@GotExhaust as he can put together pricing options for you

6” should get new UCA because it uses spring preload to get the last little bit which puts it above what “stock angles” are. Any UCA for lifts readjusts the ball joint angles which you don’t need for a 4” kit because 4” kit keeps stock angles. I have a small kit using front struts and rear lift springs so I’m lifted 3/1.5 and 35s

As always @Quick_Shifter hit the nail on the head. Figure out what realistic budget you want to stay within and then go from there. I also recommend the Zone 6" kit as we have MANY happy customers running that kit. We have some other options too but the Zone 6" is pretty much the go to if it fits in your budget.

It's only a 7' garage lol ... It makes it by about an inch or 2 ...

So a four I wouldn’t need to worry about zone upper control arms...6 seems like overkill. I just need to make a decision because the sra’s are at the wear bar and my brother has 285 duratracs that he’s gonna gift to me. At the very least I need a level but I was thinking a four would look good.

The 4 inch would look awesome. That’s what I decided to go with also.

What lift did you chose and I’m still kind of lost I thought suspension lift was the right way to do this but don’t they all use spacers over the stock shock? I was just reading another post about the max trac lift? How does one decide what to do?

I’d grab the 6” Superlift and leave out the extra spacer, this will yield you a 4” front 3” rear. Almost 90k on my lift (truck has 128k on it)still rocking stock UCA’s and tie rods (Superlift doesn’t use/require tire rod extensions).

I would say get the 4” Superlift but I don’t believe the 4” kit has the brackets out back to relocate the control arms ( my 4” did but I think they made a change at some point).

I think I’ve decided on the superlift four inch? I tried to get a rough idea on install for it and he said 1000 but depends on what can be reused ect that sound about right?

I'm wondering how? I have 34" tires and only 3" of lift in the front and 2 in the rear and I barely clear my 7ft garage door. Before this truck, my old 2nd gen had 35"s and a body lift with leveling pucks and rear leaf spacer lift and it did not fit im my garage.

Are you guys with 37's swapping your gears to address the power loss? or does your transmission just never make it into overdrive anymore? I dont see it mentioned much.
EDIT just saw in your signature you have 4.88s...


OP if your thinking of even 35's be prepared for the truck to behave a lot more sluggishly and a large MPG hit unless you do it right and swap gears. I have the 3.92 towing gears in my tuned ecodiesel. I lost like 10mpg on the highway and like 5-6 in the city just going from 31 4 plys like you have now s to 34.5" tires 10 ply. (42lb tires to 70 with balancing beads) Ive also read your the stock "33" " Sras really only measure out to be 31". I have new 4ply 34.5" nitto G2s on order that weigh 20lbs less per tire than the 10 ply mickey thompsons I just installed a couple months ago. They should help.

Years ago I had a wrangler with a 5 speed and 4cyl with 31.5" 4 ply kelly safari tires... when the tires wore out I decided to go with 32.5 bfg 10 ply mud tires. the additional 1 inch but large weight increase of the tires made a huge negative difference. I literally could no longer use 5th gear anymore and my mileage got much worse. Ended up swapping the 4.10 gears to 4.54 which corrected everything and made the jeep more fun to drive with better gas mileage to boot. even my last ram needed 4.56 gears for the 35" mud tires.
