4th Gen in 3rd Gen

I have a question, does anyone know if it's possible to put a later model 3rd Gen or early model 4th Gen factory stereo in an 04. I realize that the bezel will have to be fabricated, but I need to know if it will bolt in directly and if the wiring harness will hook up directly. I don't want to go through buying all the extra equipment to put in an aftermarket stereo, but I still want a factory stereo that has an AUX input on the front. If anyone can help chime in.

Would be a cool build. It would require fiberglass skills and definately some wiring knowledge. I think you should try it!

im pretty sure its a no. i believe the wiring harnesses are completely different

I looked at the pics of the wiring harness for the early 4th Gen/late 3rd Gen stereos today and the plugs on the back are indentical. I'm not talking about the Double DIN 4th Gen, I'm talkin the ones with the odd shaped face, the rectangle with the knobs pushed out the sides. Now putting in the 4th Gen with the Navy would be really kool but I would have to build a harness adapter and hope the computers could talk.

I think you would need a lockpick adapter to make this work.

Ok, did some research, the 03-05 radio and the 06-09 radios have the same harness. Does anyone have the chassis and faceplate measurements so I can see if it will fit in the dash and see what I have to modify on the panel to make it fit. I'm starting to get excited about this mod.
