I have a 2020 ram 1500 four-wheel drive. I had the tires rotated in front end aligned. All they had to do was adjust the tow. That was it. Nothing else was messed with. Now my truck will not engage in a four-wheel drive. I have no gauge lights saying anything's wrong. I just get a message that says shift not recognized. I replaced the shift actuator and still have the same problem. Any other ideas?

My suggestion would be to scan for codes with a fully capable code scanner, to see where the faults are, to get an idea as to what might be wrong.

Disconnect the battery for a bit. Maybe 20 minutes. Press the brake for a minute during this time too to discharge all of the capacitors.

Shift the truck to 4wd Low.

Does it shift to low or do you still get the shift not recognized message in the EVIC?

Nothing the alignment guys touched should cause an issue.

I did disconnect battery for about 1 hour I didn't touch breaks while the battery was disconnected, and It still says shift not recognized

Well that sucks! Maybe a trip to the dealership is in order?

Keep in mind our trucks never actually engage the front differential unless the rear tires spin.

4 Low is just a good test because of the gear reduction. You'll notice that quickly.

It doesn't?

I know that GM's Auto 4wd does engages both differential in a 20-80 configuration on default. It then increases front differential until it hits 50%, depending on driving conditions. At least, according to the 4wd display.

Their transfer case is made by New Venture Gear

I don't have the off-road pages display option in my Ram truck. I assumed it uses the same configuration.

If you need to put torque on the front differential, due to slipping, you need to do it in milliseconds. If there no prior engagement before slipping, then you need to overpower the inertia first before you get torque. That's going to cost a few milliseconds.

Why throw parts at it, if it's under warranty. Could that void your extended warranty on the drivetrain??

Silly question: how many miles are on the truck?

You have two reasonable options: 1) go back to location where they did the alignment and argue your concerns (alignment & 4wd are two completely different systems so I don’t know how that will play out) or 2) take it to a Ram dealer and they Will fix your issue seeing you’re under warranty.
I believe those are your two options. Just my .2 cents. Good luck and keep us updated.
