I have a 1994 1500 318 4x4 the transmission is virtually shot when I got it, fluid was black not shifting well slipping like crazy bla bla bla. I need to know will a 2wd transmission of the same year fit my 4x4? I have a donor truck in the works but it's a 2wd.

The 4wd and 2wd have different tail shafts for the overdrive housing. You can swap them over but you probably have to rebuild the overdrive housing from the 4x4 anyways

The 2wd trans is a two piece housing, and it splits halfway up from the back. You're almost replacing half the trans at that point and still rebuilding the tail section. You might as well just rebuild the 4x4 and not bother separating the two trans. After all, once you get even one back together, you've done about the same amount of work as a full on rebuild. Especially if you replace the front pump seal as recommended whenever you have an old trans off the engine. I'd also strongly consider inspecting and replacing the torque converter, its possible that is old and worn out as well and could be part of the cause of the trans failing.

My truck is really beat up body and interior wise along with some brake work and some wiring. One of the trucks I'm trying to get with my very limited funds has a good rebuilt trans and alot of the extra parts I need but it's 2wd. If I were to just rebuild the trans I wouldn't be able to come even half way close to being able to afford all the parts the donor truck has to offer. The other one I found is 4x4 but I can't get the guy to get back to me after we already discussed prices. I just needed to know if it was possible. I understand it will be alot of work but in my situation it's worth it and will get this vet back on his feet.

When sourcing transmissions, remember 91?-95 is the RH trans, 96 and up is the RE trans. Quite a bit of difference in them.

And 94 and 95 are the only 2 that have overdrive out of the rh. I did find that much out hahaha. I just couldn't find anything on 2wd vs 4wd and the chart didn't make enough sense to me to figure it out for my truck

One more question did the 95 rams have the back doors in the extended cab?
