Hi I have a 2003 dodge ram 1500 SLT with a 5.7 HEMI and its throwing codes and the first one is for the 8th cylinder ignition coil and the other one is for the gas cap emissions. I have already gotten a new gas cap and fixed the first issue but the second one I'm not sure if just getting a new mopar ignition coil will work or if i have to buy a whole ignition coil pack. My second question is my truck while driving the etc (the red lightning bolt) has been coming on usually while I'm in town doing 30 so i can usually pull over and shut it off and turn it right back on and it will be fine but some times ill be doing 50 60 mph and ill just lose like all power and drops in speed and i have to pull over and shut it on and off and it will be just fine. it only does this like once every week or so but i really want to get it fixed. would this be solved by replacing the ignition coil? P.S. i always service my truck every 3000 miles and keep great care of it.

I'd go to an auto parts store and have them plug in their code reader. Get all the codes and post 'em up here. Then we can move from there.

A misfire code can be the plug, the coil pack or the wire. You just swap one of those at a time over to another cylinder, start the truck and see if the code comes up on that other cylinder. That way you can narrow it down to which component has failed.

when did you last do a tuneup (new plugs, clean throttle body), agree with maddog, swap the coil pack to another cylinder and see if the codes follow it..

Along with the above items you might also carefully check the TB plug and make sure it is tight and clean.
