I have gotten a HF tune for my 2011 Ram 1500. I see the tune unlocks access to 2 prime in manual mode. After reading online, lots recommend to disable it altogether for longevity. I have yet to ask HF if its only active in manual mode. Does anyone have any experience with this? Thanks

My old 08 grand Cherokee used 2p in normal shifting and it caused no issues. Had 170k I think when a deer killed the Jeep. Yes it was tuned to accomplish that shift strategy

I've been running a 2nd prime tune for years now, including while towing, with no issues on my 65RFE. I asked 2 different tuners if it was going to affect longevity and both said no.

Where have you read that its bad for the trans?

Some was from folks on here, some from other forums, I just looked at some screenshots I took trying to see what forum it was.
They were stating that 2 prime runs off the overdrive clutches, so they can get worn more easily. Glad to hear you guys have had good luck with it.
Edit, "Dodge Talk forum" was one of them.

I think it was in 13 Ma Mopar changed the programming and 2P became 3rd gear in the RFE when they turned it into a 6 speed

So for the 65RFE according to service data, it looks like the 4C clutch is engaged while in 2prime/3rd, not the OD clutch...

Found this chart for the 545RFE, is the 4C clutch considered an "overdrive" clutch?

Also virtually the same as the 65RFE...

Definitely interested in this as I will pull the 3rd gear tune off my truck if its slowly doing damage...

If you have the 545 programming then 2P is the kickdown gear. When it was changed to the 65 they eliminated it as the kickdown but kept as an accessible gear in ERS only. So TECHNICALLY it was a 6 speed but during normal operation it was a 5 speed with 2P removed.

Yep but only during ERS operation. Normal ops it shifts just like a 545. Which is fine since it isn't having a full power kickdown applied to it in that scenario.

I think the lore behind '2P bad' relates to it causing problems with kickdown. High power or high load drops into 2P seems to have some slip issues so guys were disabling it as a bandaid.

It was one of my favorite things in my Jeep, with 32" tires and 3.73 gears a rip through 1-2-2p-3 was pretty entertaining. 8spd is still way better

I confirmed HF tune has 2P active all the time. I would think it’s fine. I found a video showing the 545 using the 4c clutch pack, as noted above.
