Figured some of you guys would enjoy these videos posted by a Youtuber out here in Colorado using his 5th Gen Power Wagon for a few vehicle recoveries...

Cool to see our PW's at work!

Definitely interesting!

Lol....@around the 4:00 mark of the second video, “Oh I can drag it...don’t you worry about that”. The confidence in that PW is awesome. Very cool videos

There are a few videos of my PW being rescued out of a giant mud pit a few weeks ago somewhere

Man I'll be honest, I winced every time y'all slammed it in reverse and yanked out like that...

Why not use the winch?

Asking because I don't have much experience using a winch, but have used tow straps a handful of times.

I told him to, he wasn’t taking direction very well lol you could hear me in one of the videos tell him the right way to do it. The problem was, I was STUCK. My belly had completely bottomed out and was digging in. The proper way to do what we did would have been to strap his hitch to a tree, and then winch me out. I was so stuck that he was just spinning tires trying to pull me out softly. But we were using a kinetic recovery strap, so other than pulling from behind instead of the front, this way wasn’t “wrong”, just not the preferred way. It definitely puts stress on the trucks, tho. You can hear a loud snap in the final pull of the second video, and if you look closely you can see my bumper shift upwards about 1/2”. My hitch bolts actually slid in the frame it was under so much stress.

A little back story to this picture. Gray power wagon had a full send it moment up a very steep and bouldery hill. At one part of the ascent, he clipped his rear bumper on a rock, pulling it out, then when he decided to abandon mission and back down the hill, the bumper caught the same rock on the other side. He would have folded his bumper under completely if he continued to back down, so we all decided down was no longer an option...he HAD to finish this obstacle.

the next issue was that as he started to climb, a rock was protruding towards his rear passenger wheel, and at one point was completely between the tire and the bedside, INSIDE the wheel well. So to keep him from sliding backwards, I positioned myself at the bottom of the hill and snatch blocked to a tree to his left, and hooked up to his hitch shackle. I kept constant pressure on his hitch as he winched himself forward, preventing him from continuing to slide passenger into the rock. This pic is me about to hook up to his hitch, you can make out the snatch block on the ground.
