hey guys. Came out to my truck this AM, put the key in, turned and got one click. gauges and lights turn on fine but it just gives one click when starting and does nothing else.

I tested the battery. It was at 9v. I put it on charge. I went to try and start it with a 50a engine start and still nothing.

Wondering if anyone has an idea on where to start looking in the fuse box? I checked f7( starter sol ) and its ok. Also k7 is starter sol but it is a relay. How do i test that?

Can anyone help please?

Truck is a 2017 power wagon

Best, Peter

If your battery is at 9v it has a dead cell. May need to leave it in the 50a for a few minutes or grab a new battery.

I got it to start by doing just that. Do the stock batteries go dead like that? It was fine all day yesterday and then over night it can go bad? Could there be a draw some where? Or you’re saying the fact that it measures 9vs means one of the cells is dead and not contributing any power?

Limited battery knowledge here. Sorry!

Is it possible that a light was incidentally left on overnight?

The battery is definitely still under warranty so I’d check it after driving for about 10mn and if it won’t start after then. I would take it to the dealership and get them to replace it for free.

No worries! That’s what this forum is for. Basically what you said is correct, cells can die in batteries all the time, for a bunch of different reasons. No real rhyme or reason to it. Heat is the biggest killer for electronics.

I recommend what McBroom said and drive it. If it’s still bad take it to AutoZone or one of those places and have them really test it, they can put a load on the battery to see if it really has a dead cell.

Let us know what you find out.

I had a similar issue happen on my 2017 6.4 about 6 months back. Stopped somewhere for lunch, and the truck would not even turn over 30 minutes later. Got a jump, drove 2 hrs home during which the check engine light came on. Let my truck sit overnight (Sunday night), and had to jump it again. On the way to the dealer first thing it went into limp mode.

I left it running for the dealer, and they said it died right after I left and they were unable to jump it. Took them a while to figure out what was wrong, and it was a simple fact that several cells in my battery had died. The battery was putting out a small fraction of the CCA's that it should have. If my truck were not still under warranty, I would have replaced the battery first off.

Ultimately, I was absolutely shocked how quickly my battery cratered. In my case, my battery had more bad cells than good. If you're still under warranty get it into the dealer before it causes damage to something electronic. If not, I'd think about replacing your battery. I never thought the battery could lead to a limp mode condition.

Best of luck.

Check the voltage at the battery with the truck running, make sure your seeing about 14V

Just check it with a volt meter in both terminals?

Yep. Exactly! Glad it worked out well.

Yes, measure between the terminals on the battery, it should read between 13.8V-14.4V while running.
