I have been thinking of performance improvements to my RCSB '17 1500 when the warranty expires. While looking at parts, I've seen good used late model low mileage truck 6.4 engines. I would think this would be a better base for performance than my 5.7 (there's no replacement for displacement!). I could get one of these and do the improvements such as cam and other bits then switch it out. So, questions:

> The engine mounts and trans mounts should be the same?

> Front drive accessories from my 5.7 would fit the 6.4?

> ECM, will mine work, maybe with an aftermarket tune?

>Any mods to the 8 sp trans required?

I see car/Challenger engines too, but I believe those have different mount points?

Anyway, just a thought but I like the idea.

6.4 swapped
I dropped a SRT 6.4 in my crew cab last winter. Everything bolted up--manifolds, timing cover, oil pan. All sensors in the same spot. Engine mounting points should be the same for the BGE 6.4. I'd imagine the trans would bolt up. IIRC, the 8spd trans is rated for 516 ft lbs of input torque. I know others here are over that without upgrading it yet. My pcm started it up first try & idled fine, but it already had a custom 5.7 tune. Hemifever told me it would start fine & run good enough for data logging. I'm not sure how well the stock pcm would do.

Thanks, that's what I was thinking. My PCM is still factory stock, but I figured to do a factory tune on it anyway. I figured it would all bolt up OK.

I'm pretty sure the BGE 6.4 would bolt up just fine as I said earlier. But I'll say the same thing that was said to me when it was a toss up between the two - - unless you're planning on doing super / turbo, why go through the effort of doing the BGE 6.4 swap for a slight bump in hp & lower torque curve?
