Can you swap out a 6 speed tranny for an 8 speed on a 2012 2 wheel drive truck. If you can then what does it take to do so?

I suppose it might be possible, though the chances of the 8-speed physically fitting (and the computer not puking all over itself after such a swap) are pretty rotten.

Thats what I fugured i just didn't know if anyone has tried. I mean anything is possible..... Lol
You would have to have the complete wiring harness and the trans control module to come with the 8spd transmission.
The 8-speed is a totally different animal... nothing interchanges between the 6spd & 8spd.
Not even the cabin harness`s will even interchange between the 2 transmissions.

I surely wouldn`t waste MY time and money even trying it.
Cheaper in the longrun to just buy a truck with the 8spd already in it.

EDIT:
If i remember right, i think the trans control module is inside of the 8spd transmission,
where as the 6spd transmission module is under the hood on the firewall. (???)
Maybe one of the younger FCA tech pup`s can clarify that for sure.

A physical fit would be no problem, they have been installing both in the 2013 frames frame for years now, they are only slightly different from the 2009 frame. You may have to construct some different structural mounts to accept it though. The hardest part would be electrical with harnesses and control modules to talk to one another.

So far I haven't heard of anyone doing it, but it would be nice if FCA offered a kit.

One person, I think it was on this site actually put a Chevy trans, Allison I believe behind a Hemi in a 4th gen truck

Try a search on the DIY section

There’s already a few threads about this, I don’t think anyone actually has though. 2010InfantryVet has a thread about it.
