I have decided to get another 2500 again. Looking at later model Laramie's, I see some have the 8.4 while others the 12in screen. I upgraded my 2015 Limited original 3c nav to a 2021 4c and love it since it has Android Auto. Our 2022 Cherokee also has the same display so we are well acquainted with them.

Since I live in a small town and all the trucks I have been looking at are online at least an hour away, I haven't had a chance to actually play with one. I do see the 12" screen was a $2k option, yet it does not affect used KBB value which I thought was odd. Can anyone tell me if they prefer one over the other and why? Thanks

The 12" is really just 2 x 6" if you're using Android Auto, since it won't go full screen. You'll have a "card" with the AA stuff and a "card" of something probably useless. HVAC would be nice if it had an on/off button without going full screen, you can adjust it but not actually turn it off. Portrait orientation screens are dumb, anyway, especially in a truck with a dash this tall so the bottom of the screen is a long ways to look vs seeing the road.

I've got the 12", driven others as rentals, and it's not a huge deal to me. The current Jeep's screen with the landscape orientation is better than either, and still has a bunch of physical controls for commonly used things. Not an option in the RAM, though.

Had the 8.4 in a “19”. Got a 12 in my current “22”. Was very hesitant to get it thinking it would be overwhelming and distracting but, after 3 years and 50k I really like it. My daughter has my old 19 and the screen has delaminated. Not the first one I’ve heard of having that issue. The 12 has had some bugs but updates have pretty well got them worked out. Keep in mind it seems to work better with an iPhone than an android phone.

Only in respect to AA. Personally, I like AA in a split screen. I'd be disappointed if they take that option away, when/if they ever get AA working in full screen mode.
I have an Android. When you say "split screen" are you referring to music such as Spotify in one and maps in the other? I have an Android and that is the only split screen I see on my current 8.4. Thanks

With the 12" screen, Android Auto will only occupy half the screen. What you do with that half is your call, it can be all map or map plus music, etc.

Then the other half will be something completely unrelated to Android Auto from a list you select from. "Media" will show what song is playing but won't give the album cover and stuff like streaming does. The rest are things like HVAC controls or what have you.

Like this, Android Auto will be confined to the top half and the climate controls will remain on the bottom half:

Yep, like DocWagon posted. That split screen with AA is awesome. I mostly use Media with the other half.

Ah, ok thanks. I was thinking side by side split screen as my current one does. But what you show makes sense with the 12".

Does anyone know how to get the UConnect 5 screen to split like this with CarPlay? I can only pull CarPlay up with full screen. I’d rather have CarPlay at the top and SiriusXM media underneath.
