Insurance will compare its “salvage” versus their “pay-out”.

If the truck is worth $20K…. and there’s $10K of damage….and the salvage/parts are worth more than $10K …(and it appears they are)…..they’ll Total it…because with your deductible they will come out ahead.

The hit on the left rear reminds me of a Dodge Dakota I had. Many years ago had a regular cab Dakota. Let my son drive it regularly. One night he and a buddy driving around and out on a dirt road trying to "fishtail" on purpose, lost control, took out a mailbox and right front impacted a culvert when they ended up in the adjacent ditch. Luckily no one hurt. Anyway, truck did not look bad, not as bad as what yours is showing, just showed damage to right front instead of left rear. Long story short, truck was repaired by highly recommended body shop and looked good. Ultimately though, they found the frame rails were fine and straight, however, the frame was "diamonded." They ended up having to disassemble the truck and reassemble on a new frame. So even if your frame checks out straight and looks good, a good shop should be able to determine if you have a similar diamond issue (truck will go down road "sideways") if they put it on a frame straightening rack. Good luck!

Many insurance companies nowadays unnecessarily total vehicles because it's quicker for the processors and settles a claim early. The costs of this years payout will reflect a corresponding increase in next years rates. Yhis why insurance rates keep going up.
