Am I being had? Nowhere online am I seeing anything near that price for a PCM. My local Firestone is telling me $813 is the price of the part+flashing from the part provider. I was also charged $275 for a starter(Part+labor), and I find it incredibly unlikely that the starter and PCM went at the same time to prevent me from starting my vehicle.

no. If you brought it in for a no start condition, and some ditzoid diagnosed it as a starter, they installed and charged you for a starter, and it still won't start then you are entitled to a refund. I've worked for firestone in the past. They are gonna play hard to get to come off the refund but its all about pulling the right strings.

Your options, depending on the way you argue it and who you deal with, are:
a full refund of th cost of the starter, the original diagnosis, and the labor.
OR if you can play it right, refuse the refund and make them buy you the PCM.

the latter is unlikely but I've seen it done on items way more costly than an 800 dollar PCM. If anything, general shop policy is if you misdiagnose something, and perform and charge the customer for the repair, and that was not the problem, you eat the cost and refund the money. Trying to charge you for both is unacceptable.

I'm not sure of the price of the PCM, call your local dodge dealer and have your VIN ready. As for them wanting you to pay for their misdiagnosis, yes you are being had.

If you dont get anywhere with the manager, try the district manager. They have to give you his number. If they refuse, its on the bottom of the receipt, and online on their website.

I would have asked for the old parts and had them tested somewhere else. You just never know now days when someone trying to get into your pocket dishonestly.

The prices you see online are not going to match what a shop will charge you, ever.
Shops charge "list price' which has a profit built in for the shop so they make money on the part and the install.

I'm not saying it's NOT the computer, I'm just saying I think they are misdiagnosing it.
A No-start becuase of a computer is really farking odd. Does it crank just doesn't fire?
