Hi all,

I've got the opportunity to buy a wrecked 86 w150 with a fresh, mildly built 318 and four speed "with a granny gear" for dirt cheap. The idea would be that I'd direct swap motor and trans into MY 86 W150 with a tired, wheezing stock 318 and 727 with close to 200,000 on it. My questions are these.. Anybody know what 4 spd. this might be? I expect to have to cut a hole in the floor for the shifter, I doubt Dodge was cool enough to put in a bolt in panel to make installation universal at the factory. Is there any possible T-case/trans combo that would make me have to cut a different hole for the T-case as well? I believe I currently have a NP208 behind the 727, but don't hold me to that. Also, were the 4 speeds mechanical, or hydraulic linkage in '86? Anybody done this before and feel like talking me out of my tree?

Thanks, Matt

i think it should be a fairly straight swap. most likely have to cut a couple holes in the floor but if you got the other truck for parts it should not be too hard. it should have mechanical linkage.

I have an85 w150 with the granny four speed. Mine has the 208 case so that will work fine. Also 86 had mechanical linkage u can put hydraulic in it but its the late 80s early 90s that had that. Also there was two four speeds dodge had. The np435 has the granny gear and the had the a833 which was a regular four speed no granny low. Which I have only seen that one in two wheel drives. I hope this helps you.
