Its probably going to be a simple answer like it doesn't bolt up but I couldn't find any info on a quick search. I have a 98 1500 and would like to run 8 bolt for wheel selection, and all I've ever seen is the full axle swaps.. but our hub assembly's look the same weather 5 or 8 bolt.. Can someone explain why this doesn't work?

There is a 3 bolt hub bearing with 8 lugs for the dana 44. You would need an axle swap for the rear. The dana 60 fronts use a 4 bolt hub bearing.

Just like days of old. Dana 44 came 5 lug or 8 lug. But rear needed a swap. With the second Gen it is fairly easy to swap both diffs and if you look long enough you will find cheap 60's. Paid $300 for my pair.

I picked up a set of 60’s from a cash for clunkers ‘02 & thought I won the lottery when I found them.
Now I trip over them in the junkyard.

I wonder what a set of 5 to 8 lug conversion adapters would run? Or if there is enough meat in the axles to re-drill the ends to the 8 lug pattern?
