My '17 has an issue that kind of bugs me. When I'm in a traveling along and the truck is not really putting power to the wheels as in almost a cost, then when a slight amount of power is needed, the transmission has a little hiccup. Feels like the torque converter unlocks for a split second causing a slight surge in engine rpm. Anyone else has this issue?

I would say for sure its the MDS. Use the +/- buttons on the right side of the steering wheel to turn off the MDS temporarily (Make sure it shows an 8 in the EVIC) and then you'll know.

I find it scary how similar the MDS on/off feeling and sounds are to torque converter shudder.

Mine seems to be a bit better since my last oil change, from factory fill to convent, but maybe just a coincidence. I still don't like the feeling or sound when it disengages.

I did a ride along with the service tech from the dealer 30 days after I picked up my truck and they said it was the engine kicking back onto all 8 cylinders

Sounds like MDS. Takes a bit to restart the idled cylinders. Often requires a heavier stomp on the skinny pedal and a delay before you get the downshift you want.

It works! I downshfted to 7 & upshifed to 8. It did turn off the MDS. Turned the knob again to + and it turned the ECO back on. I plan to do this when I drive around town but will leave it on when driving distance on the highway. Any thoughts....good or bad? ftd

I don't think my issue is MDS. I had that on my '08 and know what that feels like. This actually raises raises the RPM for a partial second. When I say needing additional power, it is not enough to require MDS to turn off. I'm going to make sure by switching to selecting gear 8 to disable the MDS.

the 8 speed in my 16 shifts a bit diffrent than the 5 spd auto in my 09 2500 and ive had to get used to it, i can notice the mds kicking in and sometimes it cant decide if it wants to upshift or downshift especially when slowing down for a stoplight. Ive been told its normal for these 8 speed trannys.

Ive noticed the mds kicking in and out more on my 16' than in my 09 2500. I think it has to do with certain shift points on the 8 speed. I cant answer for the 6 speed trucks but Im still getting used to the 8 speed myself.

The slip yoke on the 2 piece driveshaft used on the 8 speed equipped crew cabs can cause something similar to this. It stems from insufficient lubrication from the factory and can often be felt when coming to or leaving a stop as well.
