OK. I've been searching off and on for days and can't find a definitive answer to my question. I know the axles are unequal length on the ZF and would need to be changed to an 09-10 axle but they will slide in. But, my ? is; will the diff/R&P/etc. from said 09-10 rear end assembly fit into a ZF housing? Also, what about ancillary parts like ABS wiring/tone rings or parking brake assembly? I've found a zillion, "IIRC" or "my brother in law's cousin..." or "I've read/heard...". There's dozens of options for the Chrysler based axle but very few for the ZF. (Which makes no sense now, seeing as there are literally millions of them on the road now, 7 years later) Has anybody actually done this or witnessed this being done? Also, anybody deal with a shop in the Chicago area that does work like this and might know about this? Nobody seems to want to get involved in anything other than a straight rebuild. BTW, vehicle in question is a 2012 1500 QC 2WD 3.55 open. Want to go to 4.10, preferably a locker. If I was hell bent on this, I'd just get the Yukon or Auburn posi and be done with it. TIA

Your best bet would be using an OEM LSD.

If the interwebs is to be believed, that's the most wear prone of the bunch. I'd like to do this once and forget about it.

I haven't heard that Yukon made an LSD for the zf rear. I have read of Auburn's not holding up, on the internet. If you find a locker let us a know.

I have the Yukon dura grip in my zf. 10,000 miles so far.
I have it because I live in the frozen north and a 2wd. My truck came as an open rear.
If I was more spirited in my driving with the truck, I woulda done the older 9.25 and one of the better units.
I got the Yukon because I’m familiar with clutch pack sure grips from my old mopar. It worked good in that and I drive that car like an idiot. So I thought it would be good for the ram, though reviews don’t seem so hot, but I’ve seen the home videos of how guys are hammering these trucks and I don’t think a clutch pack was made for doing donuts with. Anyways. My thoughts.
I think the housing is the same zf non zf?

Yes I believe the housing is the same. I gave up looking for aftermarket las a couple years ago. Had no idea Yukon had come out with a unit. My 16 came equipped with a stock unit, but when it fails I will be looking at Yukon.

Everything has its good points and it's bad points. The 11s were still pretty straight forward when it came to mods. Didn't need a second ECU for a tuner. A gear swap, was just that. You didn't need to swap axles. But the down side is the 11s didn't get the 8 speed, and the mythical bazillion miles per gallon that it supposedly gets.

A tuned 5/645RFE with 4.10s is a fine combination. My truck is over 7 years old. It's the mono colored dark green. You see very few like it. It's a keeper.

Check with Matt at Moes.He can set you up with everything to put a Detriot Tru Trac in your ZF diff. It's not cheap, but it's a pretty straight forward swap. I blew up 2 of the OEM limited slips which the dealer covered under warrenty, but they told me they might have a hard time getting a 3rd one through,so the last time my original housing was rebuilt,i hunted up another housing and installed a Tru Trac in it,and put my rebuilt housing in storage until I trade the truck off,at which time i'll re-install it and keep this housing as it also has a set of Illicits cut brackets that have been welded on,and either sell it,or install it in another truck. The earlier ZF's do have the ABS sensor on the front of the housing, not a big deal if you use the matching brake backing plates, but if you decide to re-use the later backing plates on the earlier ZF diff, you'll have to grind a small notch in the housing end for the ABS sensor.Nothing a few minutes with a die grinder and carbide bit won't take care of.
