I want to buy a topper for my Ram 3500. Around here it's pretty much either Leer or A.R.E.. What is the consensus on these two brands? I use the truck mainly for towing a travel trailer and taking long trips with it. I've been mounting bikes on rails on top of a tonneau cover and would rather bed-mount them inside. Also there's a lot of snow and rain where I'm at. Not looking for bells and whistles; just functionality, and durability.
I have a 2013, Ram 1500 and the A.R.E has worked perfectly, still looks great on my black truck. Check and compare prices.

I've had three ARE toppers and all were great. One option I got on the one I have now is instead of one locking handle in the middle, I got two locking handles, one on each side.

I bought a 2015 EcoDiesel and when it had all the diesel emissions problems, I dumped it and got a 2019Hemi - on the same color truck. I'd bought a Century cap in 2015 and moved it over to my 2019 RAM 1500 Classic (same body style, Gen 4) and it's 10 years old with zero issues. Century and Leer are basically made across the road from each other by the same parent company. Buddy of mine has an A.R.E. on a 2011 F150 he bought brand new, and has had no problems other than the lift strut pistons (which fail on all of them) and the bottom of the hatch door cracked and fell apart. (He's got it cobbled together with Gorilla tape.) I'd personally consider the Leer or Century.

Whatever you buy I strongly suggest, locking handle on each side of rear door rather than a centre handle and side windows that open and lock on both sides. It makes the cap way more useable. I also have double clamps on mine, holding the canopy to the box at every position, front middle and back. It keeps the canopy in place when the body twists off road. Other option is to bolt it down rather than use clamps.
