Added tailgate light bar

I put one on my 2017, it was still going strong 4.5 years later when I traded it in.

I was thinking about getting one mainly for the white reverse lighting but the interference with the spare tire access put me off. Also, none of the products I looked at provided a non-splicing solution.

I decided to go with the Diode Dynamics Hitch Mount light (I don't tow) which came with a harness that plugs into the back of the trailer hitch outlet:

I have a Classic and the reverse lighting is abysmal. This light helps quite a bit. I do like the look of that full bar though.

Do you have the trailer tow package on your truck and if so did the hitch mount show that a trailer was connected? I have a 2015 1500 and I am looking to get the DiodeDynamic Hitch mount with the brake light, but noticed on their website that they are testing to see if there it shows trailer connected or if it plays nicely.
I was looking at one of the OPT7 tailgate light bars but I don't like that it gets in the way of the spare tire drop access.

The Curt connector really makes for a simple "plug & play". Don't forget a night photo.

It's hard not to find these without a few LEDs out.

Depending on the state, the lights might not be legal. For example in Va, it is not legal to add tailgate lights to your truck. This applies to running or directional. Not sure about backup lights.

Before spending the time and money you might check with your friendly state inspector.

Same goes for lights underneath or in some cases even headlights. (possibly you can have under lights, but just not use them unless parked)

In Va you must have the same bulbs for headlights as provided when new, or you won't pass inspection.

Hopefully your state is more lenient.

thats good info. I just posted in another thread about I have had nothing but bad luck with them. I may have to try the Putco
