I am planning to add tow mirrors and a backup camera in a couple months. I came into the dealer to have my truck serviced (they charged me for an oil change program after I told them multiple times I didn't want it), so I figured I would get them to go ahead and flash the computer with the correct sales codes. They are telling me they can't do it until the parts have been installed. Otherwise, the computer will throw codes and won't work. On top of that, they charge $135 just to flash the computer!!!

Are they correct in saying the sales codes can't be added until after the parts are installed? And what is the going rate these days to have the computer flashed. I'm in Raleigh, NC, by the way (good ole Hendrick stealership).

Appreciate any help.

I can't comment on the mirror sales codes but myself and others can confirm 100% that the backup camera sales code (XAC) can be added at anytime. The only thing that will happen is that the radio will display a blue screen while in reverse that says "check entire surroundings" until a working camera is hooked up.

That's what I thought. I even told they guy that because I've done quite a bit of research on both the mirrors and the camera and he still stuck to his claim. Said the computer would basically stop working because it would be looking for a part that isn't there.

All the tow mirror sales code is for is so the mirror controls adjust when the mirror is flipped up, so I don't see how that would cause any issues.

Guess I just need to find someone else to do it....$135 to flash the computer seems a bit on the high side anyways.

Going rate for code flashes seems to be a 1/2 - 1 hr labor rate.

Here's some threads if you haven't come across them...
We even have a how to thread for installing it yourself (minus the sales code)...

Installing OEM backup cam post 10

You could buy the AutoIngenuity code tool and flash a lot of things yourself ...
Enabling factory option codes without the dealer

Codes for the Mirrors are LEC and LEB. They are for the Puddle Lights and the Turn signals.

Thanks. The mirrors I have already have the puddle lamps and turn signals. I just wanted them to activate the LEG code, so the mirror controls would adjust when the mirror is flipped up, and the XAC code for the backup camera.

I'm seriously thinking about trying out the AutoEnginuity tool that MPGrimm mentioned. I'm not a programmer by any means, but I think I'm good enough with computers and the sort to be able to figure it out with a little help from 00R/T who started the thread MPGrimm linked to. And the option to add codes at my own convenience without paying $135 per flash is very intriguing.
