Hey Guys, I had my Ram into the dealer last week for a power steering issue that resulted in them replacing the power steering rack.
After picking up the Ram, I noticed on my drive home last night that my steering wheel felt rough on the underside and left side of the leather wrap of the steering wheel. I had a closer look at it when I got home and noticed that the leather was scratched and scuffed. I thought it was from a tool used by the mechanic to adjust or remove the steering wheel during the work that was being done.
I contacted the dealership and let them know (including pictures) and they advised me that they talked with the technician about it. He had noted that the abrasion was there before the work even started, said it was very noticeable. The work that was performed was underneath the vehicle. No tool was used near the steering wheel as no components in the interior were replaced.
They said they'd look at it to suggest how I could fix/reduce the problem. I'm not inclined to rely on car dealers when it comes to detailing issues.
I know the damage wasn’t there before the Ram was at the dealers. I don’t know what caused it. I just know it wasn’t pre-existing. The only thing different about the truck when I picked it up was that the driver’s seat was really far forward compared to where I have it.
The marks aren’t overly noticeable visually unless you’re looking for them. Just getting in and out of the truck the technician would not have noticed them visually.
It’s the feel on the hands when driving that makes them noticeable. I didn’t realize little scuffs would be so annoying on the hands while driving.
Anyway it looks like I'm on my own so looking for advice from those of you who might have tackled a similar issue in the past.
I've googled the issue and read everything from using the Mr Clean Magic Eraser to very fine sandpaper. I'm just a little leery about going at the problem until I've thoroughly researched the possible ways to reduce the damage.
Someone on a forum I saw recommended using BlackRock Leather N Rich cleaner/conditioner on it so I bought a jar of that stuff as a less intrusive method to lessen the issue.
Anyone with any other notions let me know.
Sorry for being so long winded...….
