On my last truck I had over 10k in repairs done at no cost to me over the span of 100k miles, the warranty cost $1600. It was through the lender though so Im looking for another decent deal.IMO biggest reason for the warranty is the dreaded hemi tick due to lifter/cam. For that sole purpose it would be worth it. Of course read the fine print make sure that would be covered should it happen. If not like mtofell said not worth the paper it is written on.
I have RAM's MaxCare and as far as I am concerned, it is the only one worth it. I have had MaxCare on my 2013, it paid for itself, I have in on my 2015 (again paid for itself), and on my 2022. Keep in mind the powertrain warranty is 5 years and 60K miles for gas and 100K miles for diesel. The powertrain isn't my worry, all the issues I've had were with body electronics.Whats everyone using for extened warranty if any?
It is sad they no longer offer the lifetime plan. The good news is, when I traded in my 2013 with the lifetime MaxCare, I got $2,500 back when I terminated the service contract.I also purchased the Mopar Lifetime MaxCare plan.
Yeah, I've been burned by aftermarket warranties a couple times. Purchased a "powertrain warranty" on the wife's '14 Chrysler 300. When we had a oil leak issue with the cooler was told it wasn't covered. One from the manufacturer or nothing. Third-party aren't worth the paper they are written on.
Overall, warranties (even from the manufacturer) are a bad buy since the companies are in it to make money. That being said, in 2014 I bought a Lifetime Maxcare for $2300 and am up to about $8,000 and counting in benefit. The real benefit to me has been staying out of the showroom and being able to keep my truck without fearing a big ticket repair.
Looking into my crystal ball I see 25 pages of financial advice, recommendations for investments and places to put the money instead of into a warranty. Probably a few insults and spats along the way too!
Yep, that's EXACTLY what they do - bury exclusions in the fine print so essentially nothing is really covered. I had a buddy with a similar thing on the tranny. Shop said it was an electronics failure that caused the mechanical failure and electronics inside the tranny were excluded. WTF? The skeptic in me suspects the shops on "the list" that you must take the vehicle to get kickbacks or some compensation to protect the warranty companies.Yeah, I've been burned by aftermarket warranties a couple times. Correct me if I'm wrong; isn't the engine the heart of the powertrain?
Yeah, when we bought the car and they offered the powertrain warranty I asked a bunch of question. "It covers all powertrain issues correct? Anything wrong with engine, transmission, diff, driveshaft etc., no exclusion?" "Absolutely! It cover the complete powertrain!" Said the salesman. Truth was he had no idea. It is just his job to push these warranties on car buyers.Yep, that's EXACTLY what they do - bury exclusions in the fine print so essentially nothing is really covered.
