air bags

Getting ready to lower my express 4x4 with helper air bags and need advice. Do the vehicle mounted compressors put out enough air to raise the rear springs when loaded or do you need to air up before loading? never used air bags before. Any brand better than others? Would like to mount compressor to frame some where under the bed, bad idea? Want to be able to control height on each side independently.
