they still use a halogen projector, while you can run a hid bulb in it, its never going to match the output of a true hid projector setup.
why not save a ton of cash, go to TRS and get a set of mini H1 7.0 with either 35w or 50w bulbs and ballast and retrofit them in your current lights.

The alpharex projectors are equivalent to the oem projectors. You'll be more going for a different look than any real gain in performance. I ran a few different setups in the 2019 style alpharex headlights with good results. Hikari ultra led's ($~80 on Amazon), katana led's (~$50 on Amazon), Aukee led's ($~60 on Amazon) and Innovited 35w and 55w hid's (~$40-60 on Amazon). The 55w was barely brighter than the 35w and the Aukee were the closest to the 35w hid's. Other than the Aukee LED'S most who are have these headlights are running these bulbs. I am currently in the middle of retrofitting mine. Depending on which hid I end up using (morimoto 50w ~$120 or the 55w Innovited ~$55) I'll have any between $275-$330 into them. I did add profile pivot switchbacks strips in the upper and lower drl's.

I like the look of both. My factory projectors are starting to haze inside the lens. Not sure which I’d like to do when it’s time to replace them.

Just looked at the retrofit with new projector lenses. From TRS does this actually work way better than stock lens?? Is it worth the money and time/hassle taking stock lens apart?

Any midgrade projector and up with hid's will out perform the stock projectors. But prices can skyrocket fast. If you go with kinda the standard factory projector headlight retro, with new headlights (most common is the tyc replacement), fx-r projector, morimoto 35w hid's and a switchback board for drl/turns depending on where you go you are looking at roughly $1000-1200 for someone to do it for you.

I was going through bulb facts, and in a projector housing, the Hikari ultras are the brightest of the LEDs and even hids available for the low beam, the high beam is another story. They probably use the 35w kit. I'm wondering if maybe you got a defective set or the numbers that they provide aren't the best.

I bought a lux meter and have been testing some different options

They will offer much better output than stock. I have personally used many Morimoto projectors and they always impress me with their performance
