Ahhh, makes sense...thanks BB! I am learning so much on this forum it ain't even funny! For example, now that I'm paying attention, I have to agree with the way another poster here characterized the stock sub; "flubby" is the perfect word. It's plenty loud for me, but clean? No way. That's why I think the Pioneer model will be a great swap.

Damnit. I remember seeing a post from someone saying to do the Pioneer Sub upgrade... that the Metra 72-6514s harnesses were needed/used, but I cannot find it.

Planning to put 'er in this weekend, and wanted to order a couple from Amazon today. Can someone confirm the 6514s please??

Thank you. :)

Its the same adapters as the door speakers (don't remember the number). You just have to cut off the spade terminals and feed the bare wire into the sub inputs. 2 adapters are needed (one for each voice coil).

Ahhh... thanks guys. Much appreciated.

I was just going to cut the factory wires, but I then I'd need to confirm polarity by opening up a door trim panel... so, I'll bypass doing that and just spend the $5.64 on another set.

What all do I need to buy to put more power into the pioneer 8" sub? Which amp and whatever else to make it work with the original 8.4na HU.I'm a complete idiot when it comes to radio systems. @Witch is selling his old setup http://www.ramforum.com/threads/alpine-upgrade.121400/ He has an LC2i and Rockford Fosgate Prime 250.1. Is there something else needed to make it work or would those two be it? I would love to buy his whole setup, but money is going some where else and I'm buying one piece at a time.

TX,

Many have recommended the Fosgate DSR1. I just looked it up quick... and I HAVE to have one!!

I don't know too much about car audio anymore either, so I'm still learning too. I did, however, just finish putting a Pioneer 8" sub in this weekend... and overall, I'm pleased. Sounds better, and 'cleaner' if you will. Man, I don't know what's more worthless... the factory sub itself or that POS plastic enclosure it sits in!! Wow.

I don't want to get into the DSR1 here on this thread, but if someone knows if there's a good thread on explaining how to install one of those, I'd appreciate a link. I'll do a search too.

Thanks to all for the help with the speaker upgrade, learned a lot about the system and it's sounding WAY better than it did.

Take care.

How ironic, G, as I did the Pioneer swap last weekend, too! My opinion mirrors yours...the sound is hands-down better than stock and I've only changed the sub. I, too, am interested in a better amp; I hope swapping the original one isn't too hard.

Only way to get more BASS is to add to the woofer size and the power going to it.

So just a thought here: would getting rid of the factory sub box and fabbing a new one around the Pioneer unit be worth it?

Kind of yes and no. Yes, you might get a little more out of it (especially if you built a ported enclosure), but, if you’re going to all that effort and expense I would consider upgrading the sub as well.

Upgrading the sub to what? We already did that. The Pioneer and Fosgate Punch unit (forget the P/N) are the only 2 shallow mount subs that will fit these vehicles... no??? Perhaps I am wrong.

After looking up specs on the DSR1, I will definitely be adding one of those. But, I have a ton of questions... which may have already been answered in another thread. Don't want to ask here, and **** people off as it's not really applicable to the thread (JBL/Pioneer upgrade).

One last note, I did look up subwoofer enclosures (for my MY - 2016)... I can't believe no one makes an aftermarket version! I think it would sell. The plastic one is just garbage. BTW, I saw a couple listings on Ebay for the enclosure and sub for almost $200.00! Wow.

He is asking about building a whole new box. If that’s the case then you could conceivably go with any subwoofer out there. Not just the few that fit in the factory box. If wanting to keep a slim fit in a custom box, I would suggest the JL TW3 or TW5 series.

Understood and thanks! I think I'll just see what an upgraded amp does for it and go from there. As stated earlier, I'm not an audiophile, so my system doesn't have to be the latest and greatest, but I want it to sound as nice as possible for my budget.

Ahh, gotcha. By looking at the available room... I wouldn't "think" anything bigger than an 8" would fit under the seat, in the space available regardless of a custom or factory enclosure. Not disagreeing by any means... just my .02.

With that said, I pulled the trigger and bought a DSR1 last night off Ebay. Open box ('new') for $174.99 plus $9.99 S/H. I'm quite excited.

I'll doing some Googling while on vacation to see how to install/set this thing up. Hope it's not terribly complicated. I don't want to be tearing my interior apart to get it wires/cabling to do so. I hope that's not the case.

Again, if anyone knows of any good 'How To' threads on DSR1 installation and setup... please share. I won't even know where to begin to setup, but I'll give it a whirl. :)

Take care.

Nevermind... I think I found a good thread on the DSR1 installation, from a fellow Ram forum member. I'll read thru it, it was from about 6-7 months ago. Hopefully, the bugs have been worked out. I'm excited to hear this thing!! :)

We've got members here running dual 10s and I'm personally running a JL 12W6. It's not shallow by any means. With seat spacers you can fit a fairly deep sub under the rear seats. I'm toying with the idea of my next setup being a pair of JL 8W7s in a ported enclosure. Now to win that Lotto...

does anyone know the actual power output of the stock alpine amp to each speaker? I just got a new Longhorn with the Alpine system and although it's ok.....it's not great for sure. Just trying to figure out what and IF I want to go messing around with my new truck. I don't really want to start pulling panels out but I may have to. I kept my Pioneer amp and dual Atrend 10" sub box from my 2010 Sport.

The rear door speakers get full range signal from what I understand, so I could install the subs the same way I did for the 2010 but tapping into the B Pillar but again I'm not sure I want to. Also...not sure I want to lose the flat floor fold out that is in the truck now as I kinda need it for my dogs to travel in there and not destroy my beautiful leather seats.

I'm trying to figure out if I put my Kicker 6x9 CS series into the 4 doors what will happen to the front doors since I'm told they only get mid/bass and no highs. I guess I could put them in the rear doors only since there's a full signal going to them?

the other thing is changing the dash speakers to the Kicker CS 3.5" 2 ways. If the dash only gets mid range...will the tweeters even work?

Getting this new truck has me very confused. I honestly wish it didn't have the Alpine system but that's just how the Longhorns come I guess. I'm not completely unsatisfied with my system, but it's no where near as good as my kicker CS system was in my 2010 Sport after I got done with it.

any advice would be very appreciated. I called Crutchfield and they were really not much help at all. I know this is a very specific stereo system but man...the person I spoke with really didn't know much at all.

Where is the amp located for the sub in an Alpine system?

Most of your questions where answered when you posted this in two other threads. However, the amplifier for the entire system is under the driver dash dash, to the left.

Hey Guys.

Just got back from vacation a couple days ago, and my DSR1 was on my porch... yay!

A couple questions, I had found what looked to be a decent thread on the DSR1, but I forgot to 'bookmark' it... can someone refer me to a thread that may explain/show how to install one of these things? I downloaded the manual for it, but figured if someone has already gone thru it... it may help in preventing similar issues others had during hook-up.

Also, I see there are a few different harnesses out there... does anyone know the correct P/N for a 2016 1500 Big Horn? If so, please share.

Thank you kindly.

I ran the pioneer 12" shallow sub in my 14CC, I had to use 3/4" seat spacers but I was able to do it. I wont use spacers on my 18CC as it has the 60/40 rear seat and fold flat floors. I would have to remove the fold flat floors on the driver side and space the rear seat to fit the sub I have and its just not worth it. I'm cool with the system for the time being.

Another option for you guys that I'm sure no one would want to do is a self powered underseat style sub. I run a pioneer one in my 87 TA and it helps a bit with either bass or full range and since its self contained you just run power/signal to it. I tried to fit it under my Ram front seats but no dice. Prob would fit under the pass seat if you remove the jack etc.
