Tall gears, and early shifting sure is frustrating. Even with the Hemi Fever tune, and putting it in Tow/Haul, mine still shifts too soon. I'm constantly using the Slap Stick to hold the gears longer.

But back to the OP, did the temperature drop a lot recently? That'll add a few hp.

Ya know what, it did get colder. Its like 25 degrees here in the mornings and 45ish in the afternoons now.

Are you able to 100% Confirm that the truck is in 2nd when it's in auto mode @ 35mph? It's possible when in auto its actually in 3rd gear and just takes off in thrid instead of downshifting. Are the rpms any different from auto and manual at 35?

My 8spd kind of does this I noticed. When im in 2nd going a low mph like 10 mph and gun it the truck will stay in 2nd instead of down shifting. And that would give the illusion of loss power I believe.

As I am a volunteer with our FD and have to go directly to scene I had an occasion in which I left the traffic light under light/med throttle to get truck rolling (like 10 or 15mph) and then hit it hard just to have it light the rear end up, engage traction control, settle down, and then have it churp tire on the next shift or 2 (I assume 1st to 2nd and then 2nd to 3rd) at approximately 25 to 30 mph or so. And I have the 3.21 gear.
I have the 5.7L and it did this just after turning 6000 miles. I also know how quick and powerful our trucks are as I have had mine on the track and pulled 15.063 second quarter mile time @ 93mph, all stock, on stock tire, only aired down to 28 driver and 23 passenger (open diff, attempt to compensate with tire pressure and weight in passenger side of bed)

I think everyone basically posted the totality of things.... so in Summary plus my thinking.

1). You freed up carbon build-up by running higher in the RPM’s

2). Running it higher in the RPMs May have helped the shift strategy.

3). Taking it that high in the RPMs MAY have freed up the engine itself. Injectors, push rods, valves, etc.

AND ONE NOT STATED... if the exhaust rattle had been that bad, maybe the engine read it as false knock and had pulled timing. My F150 EcoBoost would sometimes read false knock counts and pull timing if the AFE filters hit the engine bay (I had them indexed a little off).

Let the trolling begin but remember at the end of the day idaf what you believe. And before the its wet you can clearly hear the tires so there's that.
