You more than likely have an EVAP leak somewhere. Dont know if you do or not but, never gas up any vehicle while it is running because doing so will eventually set an EVAP code.

With that said, yes sensors do go bad but the hoses can too and are often overlooked. A crack in the plastic lines or rubber portion where they connect to the sensor's can develop a leak due to cracking or sometimes even because of a rodent chewing through them. You can throw parts at the problem and you may even get lucky but it can get costly and very time consuming. For proper diagnosis of an EVAP problem involves a smoke machine. They hook up to the EVAP system and administers smoke to the system. Small unseen leaks will emit the smoke indicating the leak.

I have a 2500, squirrels chewed through the evap line on the top of the tank on my truck. I couldn’t even see it, had to reach up and find it with my hands. I cut out the bad section and replaced it with rubber vacuum line with clamps, codes went away after that.

Unfortunately I'm afraid you will need to eventually gave to take it somewhere to get it diagnosed. Find yourself a reputable shop nearby. It doesnt necessarily have to be a dealer. A lot of local garages should have the equipment to diagnose the problem.

There are some videos online that showed people making their own homemade smoke machines but I will not recommend any of them to you because I wont be held accountable for damages that may occur. There is also a procedure that needs to be done to open and close the purge valve and to activate the other sensor's so they will allow the smoke to pass through

Same thing that happened to Wallace happened to me. Not sure what kind of rodent but it chewed the line in half. You can't see it from underneath.

For years I've squeezed as much fuel as possible into the tanks when I refueled. I read somewhere that doing that will cause the purge solenoid to fail because the the gas comes back up into the fill tube and down into the solenoid. I quit topping off the tank after I replaced my cap and solenoid. So far, no more check cap messages.

Have it checked out. My 2500 required a tank replacement because of a rodent chew through when I parked at the airport. I was not in a position to repair it myself. Have it checked and then see if you can repair it cheaper than replacing the tank.
