trying to find out if anyone has had any experience with this problem before. 2008 dodge ram 1500 2 wheel drive 3.7 L. 72k in original mileage. check engine light had come on with 3 codes all regarding the vapor system. Over the last few months i've replaced the purge solenoid , the vapor cannister and the gas cap. now it's popping a trouble code of 0440 and not giving me a hint as to where the problem could be now. Does anyone have a recommendation on how to pacify the d.o.t. emissions machine.

you need to smoke test the evap system to find your leak also most after market gas caps suck not sure what you used.

thanks for your reply, i used a locking gas cap for the size of the gasket on it and the fact it wasn't really hard rubber. was afraid the answer was going to be smoke test. don't know how to get a tester i could use, and trying to get this beast up in the air high enough in the driveway is almost an act of god. This truck is heavy

I made my own smoke machine from a video online.Pickle jar, fish tank pump, baby oil and a soldering iron.I spent a total of about $15.00.It works great.

As far as the emissions test,NY allows 1 monitor "not ready" (ck. your state emission laws),so I would just erase the code, drive a few min. for the other monitors to "ready" and go get my sticker.I did this for a couple yrs.,never a problem. The evap test is a two part test, one test goes down when the truck is parked and off. This complete test must pass or fail two consecutive times to affect the cel.Hope this info helps.Good luck.

Thanks to both of you. i will try both suggestions. I did get to see a couple of the smoke machine work arounds on the net, thought for sure it was going to require a higher pressure level input than it does. I'm hoping ct. is as liberal as NY. with it's requirements for this segment of testing. Not holding out much hope as they seem to be trying to raise tax dollars any way they can now.

Did you buy an OEM Mopar gas cap? I had the same issue on my 08 hemi for the past four months. Bought a cheap cap. Same issues. Bought an OEM Mopar. No more light for over a month now.

I haven't gone the OEM cap route yet, as the number of gas siphoning cases have gone up in this area recently. the locking after market cap i picked up pretty cheaply appears to be working. but i will keep your suggestion in mind thank you. Running up a few miles to see if codes pop again. And trying to create my own home made smoke machine if necessary.
