Just joined at the suggestion of one of your members from WY, looking forward to reading lots of the opinions in the HD and towing sections.
Have been on the Cummins forum for quite a while, but am thinking about making the jump to the 6.4.
Have a 14 3500 tradesman CTD with 3.42s and love the ride and towing get up and go, but with all of the recalls and some recent trouble on a trip, am seriously thinking of making the switch. Knowing that all else is the same... ie frame body etc. & the mileage difference won't matter much to me (live and do most of driving in flat FL), the 2 deciding factors for me will be;
1) When I tow, it is about 14K, so will the 6.4 with 4.10s handle it well?
2) I can get the Maxcare lifetime for the 6.4 (not avail for Cummins RAM).
I have about 45 days to make my decision because I can still get my $$ back on the 8/120 maxcare that I currently have.
If the 6.4 with 4.10s will handle the load that I tow about 7-8 times a year, then I will making the switch, because until now I have always kept my vehicles for at least 10yrs and 200,000 miles. Planned on doing that with this one, but I've lost confidence in it for the long term, it just has to much high tech that can cost a bunch when out of warranty.
