Id be afraid the coolant that was sitting in the heater core would stagnate, these heater cores don't need help clogging....

I’m debating on putting in a ball valve and closing it about 3/4 of the way to restrict flow. Summer is already killing me in south Florida. Something like this.

When I worked for Ford they used these Hot water shut off valves. Makes a lot of sense keeping the heater box colder. They were vacuum controlled back in the ‘70’s

Back in the day, they came on every mopar car.
When you would go to max AC, the vac. would go to the fresh air actuator inside and also to the heater valve.

For ex. FOUR SEASONS 74803 or the FOUR SEASONS 74776

And years before that, there were cable actuated heater valves.

We only get maybe a couple weeks of 90+ temps here, but every time it happens(like now, lol) i think about adapting an old cable operated shut off valve into the heater hose, then it cools off,and i forget about it,lol.

When I blocked mine that Muzzys A/C Hack kit was not available. I bought a 5/8" ball valve & had the clamps. Didn't need the hose in the mentioned kit. The hose is a tight fit on a 5/8 barb, but it works.

There's no harm in blocking it off.
Blocking redirects all the coolant through the engine and EGR cooler.

When I block the hose the AC temp goes down considerably
For example, the coldest vent went from 58 down to 42.
The penalty is you have no control of the temp.
You can only adjust the temp with the ball valve position.

We hit 90F yesterday with 60% humidity, but that was a bit later in the day,but we only get those temps usually for at most a couple weeks of the year, but we'll hit -30+ for a couple months in the winter, lol

I was actually thinking of doing this to my truck ... might try it out after all now instead of using the clamp hack , this looks better ...

Don't all ~2009-2018 hemi Ram 1500's have an electronic coolant bypass valve from the factory anyway?

Pentastar powered classics have them to this day as far as I know.

I've gotta say the A/C in my '22 will put icicles on your nose. It's a typical summer in the foothills of NC with temps in the 90's, with humidity to match, and the A/C doesn't miss a beat. I wonder if Ram changed something to make it better.

Not all. My 2017 does not. And those valves do not shut off the hot coolant flow to the heater core

My '13 has cold a/c, but my heater core is failing. I put some sealer in it and it's ok for now, but I'm putting a valve inline on the hose in case it fails out on the road somewhere. I can just shut it off then.

You would need to put 2 shutoffs. 1 in and 1 out. Or just bypass it for now by taking the hoses and putting them together
