Anyone HAPPY with Borg Warner 44-44 / Auto 4WD

Mine is now toasted. Clutches worn out, rear bushing done. Got quoted 1400 to rebuild it plus fluids and shop mat so I ordered a used low mile one. Was going to do a 4444 to 4445 swap, but since I plan to sell the truck I think it makes more sense for resale to just stick with the 4444. If I planned to run it into the ground it would be a different story.

272,000kms so around 170000 miles. It's never been a strong performer though. Liked to overheat and shut down 4wd whenever the going got tough for as long as I can remember.

There are better clutches available for it but I dont know how much they cost compared to stock.

Might just be easier to find a low mile complete unit and swap them.

LOL yup. And having it unlock all the time prevents the idiots that don't know when and where to use 4wd from destroying the front end and therefore saves FCA warranty claims

Yep and not only that but these xfer cases will make it out of warranty, so FCA wins both ways when the owner goes to pay a dealer to fix it.

Got a used low mileage one for under 400 including taxes and shipping. Having it rebuilt would have been 1700 by the time taxes etc were in so a no brainer. The used price makes me believe they are not in high demand.

I just bought a 2013 1 owner last week, I plowed for the past 10 years with my 2004 and never had 1 problem plowing here in Boston.

I'm planning to have the truck side installed in 4 weeks for a fisher 7.5 RD plow i had on my 2004.

I only do small driveways and my own. Make about $1200 a storm.

So has anyone plowed with this T-Case and what state plowing.
No off roading or 4 wheeling.

I put less than 4-5 k miles a year on the truck.
Bought 04 with 41k 9 years ago and sold it last week with 88k miles 47k miles in 9 years.

I wouldn't plow with that transfer case, the constant engaging of the tcase clutches will burn them up. Rockland Standard Gear has a heavy duty clutch pack for the 44-44 but it would require disassembling the tcase. Might want to contact @Brandon-w about his clutch locking switch...

I have a couple rams. The 2011 is the one that needs a case. 2017 is still under 3k miles

I will not be surprised if people that have worked their trucks a bit may not require both to get a decent system.

Exactly, on fourth gens, plowing voids the warranty. My 11 owners manual use to state, not recommended for plowing. Not sure of it states that. In my 16 manual. We have lighter frames and front ends as compared to 3rd gens.

For those that don't know, @Brandon-w is making a harness with a switch that forces the clutches to engage all the time essentially making the 44-44 like a GM Autotrak. He's had some great results with his prototype as shown in these videos

It electrically engages the clutch in the transfer case with a switch until you turn the switch off. It basically overrrides the computer disengaging the clutch when the throttle is let off. Contact @Brandon-w for more info.
