No problem!

I hear you, changing oil in 100 heat sucks lol. If you've been happy at Valvoline, I'd keep going there. Just ask them to put 5w30 in[emoji106]

Well I've got a Blackstone container here for a sample. At next oil change, will send sample off. Then try Penzoil Platinum and send a sample of that and compare the two. Will be switching to 30 weight next oil change. I just like Valvoline because I don't have to get out of the truck lol.

Me and several other guys would be interested in seeing the results from that oil analysis. When you get it back, please consider posting in the Blackstone UOA thread:

I too live in Houston and I work 63 hours a week, it was right at 100 yesterday when I got home from work. I change my own oil and use a much better filter than the drive thru’s or dealerships which is very important to me but I do understand the appeal of the quick lube places.

When I got home from work yesterday I checked my temps before shutting it off.

I wish my temps stayed that low.

Oil and coolant would be 210-215 in those conditions, on my truck. And thats with RedLine oil.

Thats about right for the stock tstat. A 180 tstat will have you under 200 except when towing in extreme heat. I was leary about a 180 so I originally went with a 190. Wish I went with a 180 to begin with...

Will the 180 stat drop temps even without any other changes? Im not tuned, nor will I ever get one (MaxCare Lifetime and all)

MaxCare might turn out to be the worst thing I ever bought for my truck lol

Yes it will, but if you're not tuned you might want to stick with a 190. Reason I say that is if you take it into the dealer for any warranty work it won't be as obvious that the tstat is different because it's only 13* difference.

But if you want to be 100% warranty safe I'd stick with the stock one[emoji106]

Yeah I get the warranty thing....but I just feel like sometimes Im sending the truck to its death just to KEEP that warranty, rather than taking care of it the way it should be taken care of.

I do have to say, though, even with "high" oil, coolant and trans temps, it has no problem maintaining the same temp levels regardless of outside temp. Anything from 80-100 outside gives the same basic coolant, oil and trans temps. I guess that means the system works....at least until it doesnt.

The problem is the leap of faith that they will play fair!

I do my own oil changes--use 5w-30 and OE filters. I have the 3.6 in my Ram. Owned it for 3 months--had 2 instances where it threw a CEL code of P06DE. Truck has 24k on it--2016 Big Horn. Something to do with high oil pressure reading. One of the causes I read was using the wrong vis oil. No noticeable performance issues with this code, just cleared it and went on my way. Both times it happened was during highway cruise control driving. Any thoughts?
