Just recently purchased a 2017 Ram 1500 and noticed that the battery gauge is reading between half and 3/4. All my other Rams always read right in the middle, so thinking something might be wrong I googled it and noticed a lot of pictures of 2017-2018 Ram's gauges that exhibit the same thing. Anybody else notice this as well? If I press the up on the window switch it bounces back to half and then goes back. Did it go from being a "dummy" gauge to being more accurate now?

If I'm not mistaken the gauge is rated from 8v to 16v. When running most cars run in the low 14 volt range so that looks to be about perfect.

My gauge does the same thing, it did it in my 2013 as well. I kept that thing on a battery tender so it was always over half. You will see slight fluctuations on the gauge depending on wether the alternator is on a charge cycle or not for the battery. But it's within normal range!

Hey so I’m currently having the same issue - however went to dodge and fixed a couple a sensor. Now whenever I turn my battery gauge actually goes down below the half way mark and back up no matter what way I turn my steering wheel. Also noticed my battery drops to below half when hitting the gas as well. Has anyone else had this issue?

Check / change the alternator belt and possibly the tensioner.. Sounds like belt is slipping

seems fishy

Are you sure it is an OEM alternator? I replaced mine with a high output alternator this year(Mechman370amp),and it does EXACTLY as you describe, with the gauge

Hey so I actually just had my alternator changed and they changed the IBS sensor lol. All done by a Dodge dealership. They also Cleaned all battery components and I’m still running into the issue of my gauge fluctuating.

Go and get your old alternator put back on,if there was nothing wrong with it.If I understand what you mean here is ,you say," it appeared not to make a difference".Get your .oney back.I am curious what they changed it for?

Changing the alternator and IBS sensor does not verify the belt and tensioner are good.... Just say'in.

Check the charge level input from the PCM. There is no voltage regulator, it all comes from the PCM/ECM now.
