I thought this could be a fun topic to discuss and share ideas/experiences.
When it comes to sound quality with some SPL to make it fun, I have heard some really cool set ups over the years. Some are memorable, most are repetitious/common/uneventful. Some that have stood out (In a Big Way) are:
- Center Console Enclosure (Ram 1500) Sealed down-fire with four 8" Type R's on big power. Tons of punch, very accurate, dynamic, and "bragging rights" cause they were 8's and got pretty darn loud.
- Center Console Enclosure (Ram 2500) Sealed down-fire with one old school IDQ15. Very musical, buttery smooth output, gentle but can get rowdy, transparent (you'd never know the sub was right next to you) and effortless with the low stuff..
- Enclosure behind center console (Ram 1500) JBLW12gtiMkII ported forward towards dash, down-fire. Best of both worlds...SQ and SPL...it could do it all. Mechanically silent, transparent, smooth, but could move TONS of air....this sub will let you know where you need more butyl deadener.
- Netaudio TALL dual 12" box sealed. Two ARC Audio Black 12's on 1600 watts. The most mechanically silent subwoofer I have ever heard....pure buttery smoothness. Not a loud set up, but so smooth and musical.
- UP Front subwoofer box (passenger footwell firing towards passenger seat) JL 10w6. Up front bass is awesome. Total SQ ....accurate reproduction
- I think my IDMAX12 1200 watts down-fire behind the center console sounds really nice too. Kinda a best of both worlds....sounds great, great SQ but has a lot of fun factor when I am in the mood. The IDMAX never loses its composure...never breaks a sweat.

In highschool, I had an extended cab Ford Ranger with 4 ROUND Solo Baric 12''s running on two Sony 1,000 watt amps. Thats before they even made them square. I built the box where two 12''s fired down into the floor and the other two fired behind your head. That way, I could lie to people and say, "yeah, thats only two 12''s in there." I couldnt even roll my windows all the way up when the bass was banging. I could make car alarms go off when driving through parking lots. I could make big screen TVs flicker. I could make your ears tingle, and make the panties drop. :Rock on::cool:

LOL, I even pulled my rear view mirror off and put an 8'' screen right there, put a Playstation under the pass. seat so my buddies could play video games.

Then... I got a loud ordinance/disturbing the peace ticket and had to sell the whole setup to pay the fine.:(

Those were the days! Youth is wasted on the young.

The one I had was sick. twelve 12inch Diamond Audio subs in the bed of my old 97 GMC, running Crossfire amps. Diamond Audio Hex series component set up front with Crossfire amps. Amp racks were in the bed behind the giant sub box. I had a Snugtop cap covering everything booted and sealed to where the rear window used to be.

I had one of the first Panasonic flip out screen DVD/CD players. It was pretty ridiculous.

I would play The Beastie Boys Intergalactic and watch the windshield wipers bounce off the window about an inch without it being at full volume... :D

I had people get sick when they were sitting inside of it when a bass heavy song played.

I had a 95 Ford F-150 monster
Truck regular cab longbed. Custom built center console with 2- 12 Boss audio thin subs a Boss 3500 watt amp and Boss single din HU
I used 0 gauge welding ground cable to power the amp. Turn the volume knob all the way to the right it would make the hood shake and very loud over the 460BB n open headers. d09656fcdc043a7e47f918e7000eb95c.jpg

My '98 CC had a JL Audio stealth box with a 12" Kicker Comp VR dual 4ohm wired to 2ohm ran on Kicker ZX300.1 AB mono block. Not too loud but could rattle the panels of you wanted it to. The box was under the front jump seat.

Now those are MUDDERS!!
It's a classic:two gas tanks, single cab and an engine that wouldn't/couldn't die.

Lots of SPL examples....any sound quality oriented sub stages??
I have always wanted a Dynaudio E1200 in a really nice box....the price tag has always scare me (you'd have a hard time selling a used sub for a grand+) and it's laid back mannerisms might not satisfy my output needs. One can dream and imagine

I have champagne tastes, living on a beer budget. If I spend over $1k on something it had better require fuel or ammunition.

Believe it or not, mine was also set up for SQ as well as SPL. It didn't take much to setup for SQ.

Mine actually was more for SQ. The sub placement was centered and I had Infinity 6×9s in the doors and 5.25s in the rear cab. They had directional tweeters that could be rotated for sound stage. This set up had a excellent balance between low and highs but you could crank it and rattle some things. It was never tiring to the ears and sounded better than my home system. My next system will be similar but with the sub under the rear driver side seat. I plan on making a custom fiberglass box to drop in the storage area.
My main genre is hard rock/metal so I want more punch than boom.

Shop that sold me my gear had a ram3500 with 4 jl audio 8w6s and a 3 way set up out front and 2 way in rear.the entire back wall was amps and a 12 channel dsp. The other truck they had was 3 10w3s and it sounded pretty good as well as far as trucks that haven't lost seating space they sounded about the best. Buddy had a mazda with 4 15s , but that cost him the extended cab part of the truck, but was easily the loudest pickup I've heard. If you include vans and broncos as trucks though it pales in comparison.I wedged 4 12" jl 12w3 into my mustang coupe years ago and the same subs went into my YJ, but they aren't trucks.

I bet the four 8w6's sounded pretty good...depending on how comfortable they were playing really low stuff.

The E1200 is VERY impressive, given the right room to breathe and power. However, I didn't think it sounded that much better than the Image Dynamics IDQ or audiofrog GB12 for the cost. Now their mids/highs, thats another story. I have the esotar's in our SUV and hot dayum they sound good.

EDIT: Just realized I opened a dead thread. Apologies.
