This happened to my wife today in our 2025 Ram 1500 with the Hurricane engine. Sadly, it caused an accident but no injuries. Like OP, my wife was sitting at a red light behind two other cars when the truck surged forward, plowing over the car in front of her. Witnesses agree she was stopped in traffic when the truck launched forward.

Interesting enough, not 20 minutes before this, she was in a parking lot and noticed a mandatory update flashed on the display panel stating the vehicle needed to update or it would be disabled. She pushed the OK for update and went inside the store. When she came back out, the truck would not start for 10 minutes. When it finally started, she drove it down the road, stopped in traffic at a red light and the truck took off. It happened fast but not so fast that she wasn't able to put both feet on the brake trying to crush it down. Nothing. Police didn't write her a ticket because they thought it was suspect as well, but she is still listed as at fault in the collision.

Edit: We have molded in floor mats. That was definitely NOT the issue here.
This has happened to me 4 times now with my 2025 1500 Laramie SO. Fortunetly I could stop it and had no accident. After the first two times dealer did a flash upgrade that was supposed to fix it, that was in Sept 2025. But I know it happened in January this year once, but it just happened a week ago, and and it was bad, and came close to having a situation like your wife. My dealership has my truck now and is consulting with engineers. I made them document my entire event. I already had them document the event in Sept 2025. I am sorry your wife has this same issue.

Awful! I'd be putting it in Park at lights. No idea why something this dangerous hasn't resulted in a recall.

Just to update this thread. After documented 4 problems on my 2025 Laramie, dealership kept my truck for almost a week this April and said they worked with someone at Stellatis and because they could not duplicate they returned truck to me. No repair, told me to bring it back asap after it happened in case there were codes. Geez, how many times to I have to avoid a serious accident to get this fixed! A few days later, the SEL light came on while accelerating so I drove it straight to the dealership. It had an error (P1CEA-00) that pointed to the evap system which lead them to do a software upgrade to the power control module. That was on 4/16/26. Just for the heck of it, I switched to top tier fuel to see if that helped.
Well, yesterday 7/10/26 it happened again rev'd worse than ever before. Stopped at traffic light in a highly congested area, car in front of me. I felt it starting to rev, held break as hard as I could, went up to 4000 rmp this time. Had a hard time holding it with the brake, I could hear the tires squealling. Remembered that someone said it wouldn't go into park if rev to high, so got it into neutral, but honestly don't think it really stopped the tire from spinning. It clearly would not rev down from 4000 after a few seconds, so I turned truck off to stop it, and thankfully it shut down. Very scary, and I had my husband as a passenger with me this time, who finally witnessed what I described every other time it happened. Scared the crap out of him... It started back up and we very carefully returned home that evening. Service dept can't see it today, no open appts on Sat. I will be opening case with Stellantis, AFTER filing safety concern with NHTSA online TODAY. I will say, that that last two times this happened, it's been a day or two after I filled my tank. The first time it seemed like the fuel tank had a lot of pressure, and gas actually spewed out when I release the fuel area. And no I do NOT fill after the pump shuts off...

This breaks my heart, I love this truck in most other ways, and sadly even if I wanted it replaced I can't configure a 2026 Laramie the same way I had built this one. But not sure it's worth risking my life or those of others anymore. :(

That is unreal. It sounds to me like there are plenty of clues, between the Evap codes and the excess pressure in the fuel tank, that should point them in the right direction.

I'm surprised they don't have some way to do data logging, with a device they could just hook up and it would continuously record. It's ludicrous (and dangerous) that they can't figure it out.

Stay safe

Have you tried contacting @RamCares via PM to facilitate the required repairs?

You can try sending them a PM with the VIN and a summary of the problems.

We have heard of some instances where software upgrades have helped, but I suspect, for the most part, the updates are only an act of desperation when they don't know what else to do.

It might be worth exploring the lemon laws in your state.

The following article relates to all 2025+ vehicles with Hurricane engines and using the Atlantis electrical architecture. It has functional recommendations that may help with the intermittent and erratic electrical behaviour.

The summary of upgrades includes refurbishing all common grounds, upgrading the battery to an H8 AGM, and adding a 'Big 3 electrical mod'. You might be best to have these upgrades completed by a competent private shop. They should in no way create any warranty grief.

If the dealership is interested in solving the issues with your truck, they should be proactive instead of waiting for another issue or catastrophe to react to. I would consider showing the above article to the Service Manager or the GM of the dealership if they're not responsive enough.

Or, if you're not getting any traction at the dealership, just have the mods added elsewhere.

Good luck, and please keep us in the loop.

NHTSA should be made aware of these problems in the USA, in Canada, if it happens, Transport Canada. This is a serious safety issue that need full manufacturer AND government involvement.

My brothers truck did the same thing, but he managed to get his into neautral when it started reving up at a light.
Same thing Dealer couldn't find anything wrong with it,so they gave it back to him.
I doubt my brother will get ahold of Transport Canada,as i know him  ,if it does it again,he'll just get rid of the truck

The biggest thing with the "sudden acceleration" is that it catches people off guard. The brakes are able to hold a vehicle, if they weren't, we wouldn't be able to do a torque convertor test or a brake stand.

We have had locally a recent rash of people driving through restaurant storefronts by accident, but none have been with a RAM so far.

This is certainly something that needs attention and is serious but I don’t see a real common link to these reports of sudden acceleration at a stop or low speed. The report mentions voltage loss under acceleration and heavy loading of the engine which would not seem to be the case sitting at idle. But possibly there are other loads at idle like fan, cooling fans, low alternator rpm, and AC that create a similar low voltage condition.

Maybe a good excuse to leave the stop/start feature engaged.
