I just cleaned where the strips would go, not the entire bed. But mine was a fairly brand new truck.

I did the same, I cleaned the bed surface where the strips went with regular rubbing alcohol. My truck was also new. Everything stuck down perfectly without issue. I cleaned the sections as I went along so I knew exactly where they were going to be sticking down.

man that looks great! I still need to give mine the same treatment.

how did you get the edges around the logos so clean? and the badges so smooth.

seems everytime I plasti-dip something it leaves these little bristles on the finish?

Light easy coats is the only thing I can say. I only went with what one might call a regular paint type coat on the last 2. Everything has 6 coats.

...And DO NOT wait an hour between coats. I kept a hairdryer handy, and from experience knew how much to warm it...
But if you let coat A completely dry before starting coat B the result won't be the same. You want it to be dry enough so the next coat doesn't cause a run, but wet enough where coat B will "melt" into coat A to create a strong bond, and help smooth the surface.

The edging is truly simple. Mask 3/4-one inch away from the edge, make sure the paint gets good coats too. The thicker it is on the paint, the easier it peels away.

Peeling: pull AWAY from your work, the edge will finish cleaner.

Inside peeling: I used a bamboo skewer, like for cooking on the grill, bought a big bad at Walmart in the kitchen utensil section for 2 bucks, use the point, and rub a tiny circle in the hole, rub gently to make it bigger, until you can grap with a pair of tweezers.

Masking lines: When you need to mask a line, use better tape than the cheap blue stuff. I still use a blue tape for lines, but it is a higher quality. To keep a line clean with dip, you must remove the tape when the dip is WET. And I mean spray your last coat, set the can down, and peel the tape off. That **** will wash off your fingers, don't worry about it.

I am pretty OCD when it comes to this kind of thing, I've been painting duck decoys for a lot of years, so a lot of the techniques have been applied.

EXPERIMENTATION will help you learn. REmember: if you eff it up, it will peel off!
