I prefer to add my own cord anyways. I added a 6ft cord, used s tiny bit of dielectric grease on the prongs of the factory cord and then taped the joint to keep weather out. This keeps the factory cord in good shape and i can easily and cheaply replace my added cord if I need.
I then added a nice weatherproof connector to lay in the bumper that I use when connecting it. The connector has a cap and my extension cord I keep in the bed has a mating connection. Both contain standard male and female extension cord connectors but they are in nice yellow rubber boots to seal out weather when connected and have caps on them for when disconnected. Got them on amazon.
