finally blew the tranny yesterday. i had done a bunch of work to it previously, i changed the filter and fluid and that lasted me a while until i went through a deep mud hole, about a week after that it started holding first gear so i pulled the pan and found mud in the grooves of the tranny pan but the fluid looked good still. i replaced the governor solenoid and transducer, upon testing this fix i smoked the tranny because the cooler was clogged i unclogged it and it was fine except for a slight first to second slip. i drove like this for probably 1500 miles and then the other day it completely disengaged it wasnt even a slip it just disengaged and again the tranny was rolling smoke out the dipstick tube, the cooler has full flow going through it so i dont know why its over heating, i can drive for about 500 feet before it disengages and revs up without moving. i can get a tranny out of a dodge with 208k he doesnt know anything about it but i know theres no way its the original tranny. i can get that for 100$ but i dont know how to tell if its good or not

I would just stay away from that $100 trans. Thats just gonna turn into this again down the road, not worth it in the slightest.

I'd look into a good full rebuilt with upgraded parts, like a sonnax kit or something. Or if you want to never worry about the trans again, a megaviper from PATC would be pretty sweet.

the only thing is i dont really have much money to play around with im still going to school and only work part time, i can do all my own work so i save money there but these trannies are ridiculous money and i dont plan on keeping this truck too much longer after i fix it, i wanna sell it and break even. i got it dirt cheap for 1000$ with 104k and have another 1500 into it

Well you probably shouldnt be going mudding if you cant afford to fix it when it breaks. Want to play got to pay.

But what happens when you buy that tranny, put it in and breaks shortly after on ya? You have no idea if its rebuilt, how long ago if it was, etc. Might just be easier to sell it with the broken trans and look for something else if you're not planning on keeping it.
