I have a 2019 1500 5.7l. 60k decided to service tranny. Bought a kit with pan and liqui moly fluid. I did all the things. Vehicle level, filled, brought to temp, opened plug added fluid closed plug tried to run the leveling process and when I tried to get it to 2nd it wouldnt rev and all the lights on the display started flashing. Didnt know that I had to have all 4 wheels off the ground thought only rears would do. Lifted the front off the ground and everything worked. Sat it back on the ground and waited for fluid to trickle. Put plug back in and took it for a ride. shifted smoothly but got hot quick 126f. let it sit overnight lifted it back up brought it to temp added 1/4l fluid. By the time I got back to the cab it was 115f. What am I doing wrong?

Say what? You levelled the vehicle to top off a ZF 8-speed tranny?

Read the green card again.

This must be a joke,if not you seriously should be letting a shop work on your vehicles before you end up dead :Big Laugh: :Big Laugh::Big Laugh:

I had the opposite problem a couple weeks ago when checking for fluid level. It took me forever to get it up to temp. Temp would rise a little then creep back down. That's the week we were getting some of that Siberia weather. :D And the Caulk bypass was probably also a factor.

Not sure about the liquid moly fluid, I personally would only use Mopar 8+9 speed fluid or ZF lifeguard 8 or Valvoline MaxLife.

There are other compatible fluids for the 8 speed, but I am not familiar enough with them to recommend.

The 1500's have a heater for the trans that the coolant circulates through, and they will heat up fast.

You should have lifted the rear of the truck to level the transmission first. Follow the green sheet instructions.

The Liqui Moly was in the description Mopar certified. Recommended for most BMW and Audi applications.
If when I have the time to try this again should I go through the levelling steps again? If that doesnt work and I have to get the Mopar or ZF fluid can I remove and replace the drain plug on the plastic pan? I ask because when I removed the original it felt like I was breaking plastic tabs as it was breaking free.

Yes on the leveling and going through the procedure again, can't help you on the plastic pan issue though

When the rear is lifted off the ground, transmission level, and the trans temp is below 86F, push the traction control button. That will let you drive the rear wheels and let the trans shift into 2nd gear, stop and throw it into reverse, gas it again then neutral and park. Then you quickly pull the filler plug with the engine running and top it off.

It takes very little time for the trans temp to rise to 122F. I can almost guarantee that you are moving too slow going through the green card. This isn’t billable hours, move your can!

Make sure you get the trans level! You only need about 9". (That's what she said)

If you haven't checked again yet, drain plug will allow multiple uses, its not a one time use. First time I did mine, I changed the pan on change #1 then came back a couple weeks later and did a fluid change only to get more of the factory stuff out. You do need to do all the leveling things again and check it at temp.
