So noticed yesterday when I started it up that there was quite a bit of blue smoke from my exhaust in my mirror. Today I used the remote start and watched it. Way more than I have seen from any of my vehicles. Anyone else see this? It's a 2018 with the 6.4 with 9000 miles on it. I tried it again 5 minutes later but no smoke. I was going to record it. I will try to get a recording later.

Oil was changed by the used car dealer when I bought it. The sticker on the window says they used 0-W20

Go have someone change the oil and put 0W-40 in it. Pennzoil Ultra Platinum if you can find it. 0W-20 in a 6.4 isn’t good.

^^^Absolutely agree. Way too thin oil. I run PUP 0-40 and PUP 10-30. I mix 4 and 4. No start up smoke from oil getting past parts and no dry start up noise.

Definitely change the oil with a High Quality 40Wt oil ... Like stated above [emoji1303]
PUP 0w-40 is what's recommended .

20wt is thin as.**** and will carbon up your piston heads , exhaust valve and foul your plugs ...not to mention provide inadequate lubrication to the lifters and cam !

Just checked the sticker on the window and it says 0-W20. Gonna call them tomorrow and tell them to change it with the right oil.

If it was me, I would make them find Pennzoil Ultra Platinum in 0W-40, with a Fram Ultra Synthetic Filter, or a Royal Purple Filter and then have them show you as the screw the filter on and pour the oil in.

Problem is my wife will probably have to take it back up there to get it done if they even agree to it. If I get much pushback might just do it myself so I know it's done right.

I was actually going to suggest that, but didn’t want to overstep I guess. But I would just do it yourself to ensure it’s done. I don’t trust dealers or others to work on my shop

I have had quite a bit of trouble with dealers lately. My local CJD dealer used to be owned by another owner and it was decent. A new company bought it that is based out of FL that has several dealerships and the service has been horrendous since then (Napletons). They had a buy 1 oil change get 3 free. Well 4 out of 5 oil changes they left the filter loose. Like not tight at all. My daughter drover her Jeep 15 miles and lost 1 quart in that drive and the other 3 were my Ram and my wifes Commander and all were dripping when we got home. My daughter had a lift installed on her 2006 GC and took it in for an alignment a few days later. They had it for 5 days and charged her over $500. They said they broke a bunch of bolts cause they were corroded in. hmmm....the lift was just installed and those bolts were all removed a few days earlier. My step-son has a 2015 Dart. They had to replace the engine at 20,000 miles but when he got it back his front bumper was cracked, the removable 'flap' in the inner fender to get to the headlight bulb was missing, and the wiring harness was wrapped on the outside of the manifold instead of behind it. Then he took it in for a an oil change and tire rotation and they stripped one of his wheel locks. When he got it back the black rim was all scratched up. I started going to a different dealer and the last oil change they left my filter loose...ugh. Yeah, I lost faith too.

Oh, and forgot about my tires. Bought new SRAs from them and the next day headed to work truck was shaking like crazy. Called the dealer and the fill in service advisor said the mechanic told her my wheel was bent. Well it wasn't bent when I got there and if it was they would have called and told me. So the next day I go back to the dealer (Napleton again) and the regular service advisor was back and said she talked to the mechanic and he said he never said anything about a bent rim. They rebalanced them and said they were way off. Minor here but they NEVER reset the oil change indicators and the one time I took it in for an oil change I had just washed it. When I got it back they had dripped oil down my fender and left it there. They also somehow got 4 fingerprints on my other fender that wouldn't come off. They were there for years and still there when I traded it in. The other dealer said they could wet sand and buff it but the stuff they tried didn't work either.

So called the dealer today and told them about the oil situation. He countered by trying to say something like they used the 0-W20 because the 6.4 doesn't use full synthetic oil and the semi-synthetic equivalent was 0-W20. I dunno. I kinda quit listening and said just change it and put the right stuff in. Wife took it there and they changed it.

Haven't driven it yet. I started it earlier today and recorded the exhaust but no smoke so that was a pleasant surprise. Not sure why it did it Saturday and Sunday. I do know they changed it cause they left dirty smudges all over the hood and fender...lol. I wiped it all off but still wish they had been more careful. I did start it up after she got home but it was still warm. No ticking at all that I could hear.

Sounds good, hopefully it was just the low viscosity oil. Glad it’s better so far

The 6.4 is rated for 0W40 and would have that right on the oil fill cap.

Why would they put in 0W20? I am at a loss for words.

Reading is hard.......
