Yes no check engine taking it to my mechanic I trust that does fantastic work for the family. If he mentions concerns, I'm just going to resell the f***er. I won't pay to have a 165k mile truck rebuilt when it's not needed in the first place.
I took a stethoscope to valve covers and could not replicate it. I believe it may be external. Didn't let the engine fully warm but halfway and it didn't quiet all the way but did some. No loose manifold shields. Stethoscope to the oil pan also didn't replicate that sound. Checked out.

As long as it is paid for I would be proud of it. If it is not what you want it to be you can always make it your goal to get it where you want it to be. Plus in the end you will really be proud of it. Honestly reading about your truck you already have a GREAT start.
