Hi all,

Requesting forum help with maintenance questions.

I have a 2015 RAM 1500 Tradesman Reg Cab 4x4, equipped with a 5.7L V8 Hemi MDS VVT Engine; 6-Speed Auto Trans 65RFE (column shift); 3.55 ratio anti-spin differential rear axle. I ordered the vehicle in 2015. It currently has only ~56,000 miles and runs well. The only real problem I've had was a slight leak at the right-side head gasket which was repaired in 2024.

I am planning fluid changes at a trusted shop - family friends for many years. I customarily purchase fluids beforehand for their service work to save them the trouble.

I will be having the fluids listed below replaced and need some help with quantity of fluids needed. I've listed primarily Mopar parts. Requesting help with the quantity of fluids needed for the transmission/torque converter; transfer case; and front and rear axles. Recommendations for alternate brands of fluids welcomed as well.

I look forward to replies. Thanks for your help!
Regards,

  • Engine: 5W20 (have used Mobil 1 Syn or Penzoil Syn) – 7 qts
  • Oil Filter: Mopar 339 (4892339AA)
  • Trans: ATF+4 (Mopar) Quantity? Quantity needed for Trans only or if including Torque Converter?
  • Transfer Case: Mopar BW44-44 Quantity?
  • Front Axle: Mopar GL-5 Syn ‘Axle’ Lube 75W-85 Quantity?
  • Rear Axle: Mopar Syn ‘Gear’ Lube, 75W-140 (MS 8985) Quantity? (plus 5 oz of Mopar Limited Slip Additive (MS-10111)

Read the note at the bottom, you might want to swap that 5W-20 for 5W-30.
Google the quantities you need.

My recommendation is insert the word Redline, in your fluids. Redline c+ for your 6 speed transmission will make you wonder why you waited so long. 7 quarts just to be certain

As @Wild one says 5w30 will make your day, regardless of brand, but if you really want to explore Redline, that's the juice to try. Unless your OCI is 3k. Then Penzoil with some lubeguard. 7 quarts, cause the lubeguard is 16 oz. Total 7.5 quarts.

Transfer case 2 quarts. Mopar fluid is fine.

Front axle 2 quarts. Any gear oil

Rear axle 3 quarts, I buy with the anti slip already present. Any gear oil.

Your going to have some left over, realize that.

Review the oil filter thread. Regardless of your choice in oil, a better quality filter will make a difference.
I suggest you review this thread backwards, from the most recent posts to the older pages.
This gives the benefit of the latest and greatest preferences, as these change over time.

For the 5.7, many people used to use the Fram XG-2 or FE-2, unless that has changed since my last review.

The XG-2 won't fit in my '21 Warlock (with a 5.7). I use a Fram XG-10575 because the FE-10575 is a PITA to find in Canadastan. The availability of most automotive parts in the USA is much better.
