Bouncing on certain interstates with stock tires

Hey everyone,

I have a 2020 Power Wagon and the bouncing at interstate speeds is almost undriveable (on some interstates only, I live in Salt Lake City and I-15 is the worst of all). I have some AirLifts with the internal trounce bumper that I run at 0 PSI, so I don't think that's causing it. I keep my tires between 55-60 PSI, and also have tired adjusting them as low as 50 and high as 70. Does someone have any ideas - or is there something I might be overlooking?

I have the same issue In Colorado with the concrete roads. I concur with the above. I run tire pressures at 40/35, but the biggest difference was made when I changed the stock Bilstein 4600 shocks. I tried the 5100 shocks first and that helped quite a bit, but when I upgraded to the Thuren springs and Fox shocks helped the most. Still bounces over the joints, but is smoother and doesn't rattle my teeth anymore.

I15 has some of the worst expansion joint problems I have seen in Utah. When they were first built they did not lock the joints together and they were really bad. Later they went back and tied them together to help keep the road smooth. With all the freeze / thaw cycles you get a concrete road will always heave in these condition. I drive the length of Utah several times per year and you can even feel the joints in places in my MB S550.

Is the road concrete or asphalt here in Edmonton the Anthony henday freeway is concrete and the expansion joints are terrible in a full size truck the missus hates it cuz it makes her ***** bounce lol
She may hate it but I am willing to bet you take that freeway as often as you can!

Wow, thanks for all the help everyone! I didn't even think about the PSI, I wrongly assumed that it was normal guidance for those sized tires, I even asked the dealership specifically and they said it was normal.

I'll experiment with some lower PSI and see what I get.

With HD trucks the OEM's are obligated for liability reasons to use tire inflation settings that will guarantee safety at maximum load (cargo + towing). Because those numbers are so high an empty truck will ride like dog **** because the tires are ridiculously overinflated.

I bought my pw brand new from a dealer with over inflated tires…and im not just talking overinflated from a pressure i think is correct, im talking overinflated from what the sidewall max reads.

Yea Im wondering the same my tires have been at 65 since I got this truck

So everyone is running around 40?

The tires come aired to 80 pounds from the factory so they don't flat spot from sitting and for purposes of transport as previously mentioned. When the dealer PDIs your truck they are supposed to air them down to the door sticker. Good dealers do, poorer ones don't. Have to ask yourself, if they miss the tire pressure, what else did they miss on the PDI check list.

My truck sticker says 65 rear, 60 front, I run 50 (chart says 10,720 load split evenly on all four tires) all around based on the loads I carry and at that pressure I am over max GVW. I could drop to 40 all around for everyday use based on my normal loaded weight.
I get a low tire warning from the TPS every time I start the truck and the yellow tire warning light is always on. The dealer is not allowed to change the TPS limits. You can reset TPS limits with Alpha OBD but I have never bothered to get one, and the security cable that you need to run it.

So, everyone is running low tire pressure for daily, when loaded crank the pressure back up?
Close, we try to run the pressure appropriate to the load. Gives better ride, better traction and much longer tread life. Too much air hurts performance and longevity as much as too little.

I ran the entire state of Utah yesterday in my 2022 GMC regular cab short bed and can tell you that the worst roads for bouncing was around Salt Lake. 40psi in the tires but a prominent bounce going through Salt Lake. I don't think my S class MB would have tamed those bumps.

Yeah, that's not the truck, that's the spacing of the seams in the concrete being poorly designed in relation to vehicle wheelbases.
